Im sure we have all seen the cold Steel videos, and how bad they think there knives are,and Im not saying that they are not,I have a couple myself (Not very impressed by the way there ok). They make them out to be such high quality knives, and some of them are. But in general if you look around this website for example, especially on (Whats in your pocket) very few people are carrying Cold steel. You see more Spyderco,Benchmade,Kershaw, and even higher end knives like Chris Reeve. I agree with these choices,Im a Spyderco man myself and I meen no disrespect but why arent more people putting these knives in there pockets?

I agree. those videos are fake, and frankly, i dont give any credit to a man who advises you to carry a kukri machete instead of a pistol for self defense. Thank you mr. Thompson.

That's a good question.
I won't buy from CS for a personal reason.
What do you carry?

Other then the Recon 1 in clip/spear point and the American Lawman, their folder designs don't appeal to me. Then I saw they're $60ish for AUS8. Meh. Not too famaliar with their older/discontinued models.

I've heard good things about some of their fixed blades though.

You are jumping to conclusions based on a forum thread. BF is not the general public nor are the opinions expressed here the holy gospel. I would think there are quite a few more people out there that carry CS then you are proposing. i.e. me for example.

CS makes some fine folders .i.e. Voyager, Vaquero etc. I like their folders and think they are a great value for their price point (< $50). I have never had one fail and they have always performed what I needed them to do. The geometry, fit and finish of the Japanese made lockbacks they sell are as good as Spyderco's

the voyagers are great, the 4 inch voyager bowie is an awesome edc.

i also like the ti-lite, and some of their punch daggers

I agree with tomcrx, I have carried CS for around 12 years and never an issue and have stood up to some serious everyday use.

I've owned a bunch of the folders they market(they don't make any of the knives they sell). I have owned a few of their f.b.'s too. Gotta tell ya that I think the knives they sell are pretty darn good. I have all of the Recon series and my son regularly carries a clip point and has abused it to no end and it still functions perfectly and locks up like a vault. I have 2 original voyagers that saw a ton of carry time in the early and mid 90's until I discovered Emerson. Can't say a bad thing the Voyager series either. Have an original Master Hunter from when they first came out. The BEST hunting knife I have used ever. I think the Recon is excellant also. Trail Master to big for me. I also have owned a couple of the Hatamoto's and the lg Espada that I just recently sold due to financial want in these times. The American Lawman too. All of these knives have been quality built and the Espada is a tank with the BEST back lock on a knife I have seen or used. The advertising hype to me is just that, hype but I wouldn't doubt for a minute that the knives would do everything they are asked of them and more. keepem sharp

i think the majority of people on this board don't purchase/carry cs knives because of lynn thompson's business practices, rather than the knife designs he offers.

ohh, not again...
I own exacltly 3 CS knives, 2 Cullodens, full size and mini, and 4" el Hombre and these are nice, lightweight knives, with some historical background. I heard also good words about Trailmaster, pocket Bushman and folding hunter. No one make you see the stupid ads, make your desision on them.
just my .2 cents and srry for crappy spelling

Cold Steel make some kick-ass knives, whatever the business practices of LT. I have a few CS knives in my collection mainly because I am attracted to something I find unique about them - who else makes a neck knife anything like the UrbanDart, or a folder like the Hatamoto? - and I just love SanMai blades so have a couple of CS fixed in that as well. Can't carry any of them on the street because of our knife laws but that's not a prob cause they were bought for the collection and not as users

Cold Steel makes high quality products and this thread just reminded me of that so I just purchased another one 3 minutes ago. The K-Bar Becker 9" which I just noticed is probably a much better chopper for less than a Rajah 1 (I got it too.) The Rajah is just so unique and durable I got hooked.

The Becker would be a great kitchen utility knife and would most likely do a fine job of splitting coconuts, cutting sugar canes as well as camping

I don't have the Rajah aside from looking real cool can anyone think of any kitchen uses for it?

Educated knife enthusiasts are not the focus of Cold Steal's marketing. They Market to the Ignorant/mall ninja types.
-They don't make knives, they are a marketing company.
-They steal designs
-They have a poor warranty.
-They charge excessive premiums for laminated lower end steel.
-The list goes on.

Cold Steel makes some nice stuff. I EDC the Hatamoto. I own and enjoy their bowies.

Some people seem to harbor deep personal animosity against the brand, but I wouldn't take them too seriously.

I kindly agree with this reply. Though I don't own many Cold Steel products myself, the CS knives are tremendously popular in my part of the woods. From sportsmen, survival instructors, hunting and fishing guides, etc., they are everywhere out here in the west (especially the Carbon V variety). Most knife consumers don't follow the politics of knife companies. Knife forum people...another story. :)
