Wdup with cold steel?

The Schimitar has a great lockup and VG1 is super sharp. Cold Steel is one of the very few companies that I have never had a problem with any of their liner locks and their other locks are super strong and rigid.

Cold Steel designs and sells to quality products whether you like Mr Thompson or not

Though I don't own many Cold Steel products myself, the CS knives are tremendously popular in my part of the woods.

That makes sense. Cold steel is on the west coast.

While Lynn doesn't have many fans here you gotta admit that to someone who doesn't know much about knives he probable comes across as extremely charismatic and trustworthy.

The reason I don't carry cold steel knives is simply because few of their products appeal to me and the ones that do I don't really have a practical use for. For example, I think the vaqueros are extremely cool. They seem well designed and they're not too heavy. I just currently have no use for a serrated blade.

Well, everyone can choose whatever they think is best.

I'm a Cold Steel aficionado simply because I like 4-, 5- and 6-inch blade folders, and no one else produces them. Cold Steel is very consistent in its steel quality, which is decent, and they work. They're also strong.

There's nothing wrong with any of the knives you mention, BTW. It's just preference. I've carried the 4-inch Voyager a great deal and think it's a very difficult knife to beat. For the money, though, I have to admit that the Byrd Cara Cara also is a great buy.

The thing about the CS product line is that generally, there is a little something for just about everybody.
And naturally, it would be hard to find that certain someone who simply adores every single little product from CS.
I have to confess that I love CS's dvds and promotional materials.
It's an excellent example of brilliant slick showmanship with the actual goods to back it up! Let the show begin...

I just have experience with the bushman (would rather have a becker) and the finn bear (would rather have a mora). I really disliked the bushman's grind, and the finn bear was about the same price of a mora with worse steel and construction.

I also think their marketing is pretty abrasive.

Cold Steel produces some good knives, but their marketing and design gives them a horribly bad rap here. I'm not a fan of their marketing and I don't agree with their copied designs, but they make some good stuff for decent prices. I don't even know why they copy designs, since they can clearly come up with some good stuff on their own.

Also just to be clear, Cold Steel isn't just a marketing company. They outsource their manufacturing to other companies, but there is a big difference between a marketing company and a company that outsources.
