We are bored with S30V

You've got it backwards. CPM154 is cheaper and easier to machine than S30V. S35VN is around the same price and is easier to machine than S30V. Of the three the most expensive to use is S30V. S35VN was created to be easier to machine and thus cheaper for manufacturers to use than S30V. It's not an upgrade despite so many people thinking it.

As for me having things backwards between S30 and CPM154, I just typed it like that. I know that 154 is not considered the better steel.

Tell me this, if S35vn is truly the same price, easier to machine, and easier for the end user to maintain than S30v, why do I see so few companies offering S35vn? And why does everyone consider it an upgrade? There has to be a reason that companies like Spyderco and Benchmade choose S30 over S35. Explain that.

That is a good question. I've been wondering about that myself, in particular why Spyderco recently changed the standard G10 Native 5 from S35VN to S30V. Greater availability of S30V, perhaps?

I've never had any problems with either steel, but I do find it a bit curious.

I have an S30V ProTech and it's harder to sharpen than my S35VN Sebenza and my 154CM ProTech all while not out performing either in any significant way. If I'm going to carry the knife every day it needs to be easy to sharpen as well as easy to strop back into shape which S30V IME isn't

The "S" series of CPM steels is highly overated IMO, they don't sharpen well, they don't perform well and heat treatments are very inconsistent between makers. I don't need a knife that's going to hold a "working edge" forever, I need a knife that holds the edge I give it for as long as possible. I need my knife to be sharp!

This line of steel from CPM has been pushed on us for a decade and even from inception has failed to live up to it's proclaimed greatness. I was a fanboy at one time but as with most things experience showed me differently.

Like many others I have come to prefer lower alloy content steels for easier maintenance and the performance that you expect not performance that you must get use to.

My $0.02

You Definitely do not speak for me OP. I'm about as bored with s30v as I am with any other quality steel that's well made...

Thus far they have all done exactly what they were designed to do.
I <3 steel

Just saying, I got S30V to hold a shaving edge after significant cutting using a full diamond progression.
