WE Knives? Another high end Chinese company?

The downside seems to be the proprietary hardware though.

I guess this one comes with a tool, but there are so supposedly "high-end" folders out there that leave you high and dry, unless you want to put down another fifty for a pivot tool... No excuse for that stuff.

I wonder if there are only a few Chinese knife companies, but they hav a bunch of brand names.

It's not a bunch of companies with a bunch of brand names. It's a few material suppliers and manufacturing facilities that create parts/pieces for a bunch of brand names. That's how outsourcing works. Quartermaster knives are made in the same shop that WE knives are made, but I do not believe they are the same folks running the businesses.

It's the same for pretty much any t-shirt you own. Company A has a design and Company B has a design. Company C is the manufacturing facility in Bangladesh. Both Company A & B may use the same Company C for manufacturing.

i sell the we knives.. they're absolutely amazing!! you will not regret it.. For the pivot it includes an extra tool specially made for it.

every knife includes a pivot tool.

I have a WE 601 that I bought used here on the Exchange, and its an amazing knife. I put it in the same category as Reate and a notch above ZT, Spyderco and Benchmade. I usually hate proprietary hardware, but on the WE it's not too bad. It actually is part of the style of the knife and blends with the lines and the look.

WEs are probably as cheap right now as they're going to be, so if you want to experiment with one, this would be the time.

If you sell them, would you say they are bad?

NO THEY'RE AMAZING. I'm a collector as well as a retailer with my own online shop. sorry i just saw this. but they compete with many customs that are 1000$. I'm not kidding.. i get the same response from many of the guys that purchase from me..

Anyone already seen the new model, the 602?we602a.jpg
At this moment available in 2 colorvariations.
I just uploaded a vid with my first impressions.
Taste and preferences are very personal. So color and design can appeal or not. But the build quality of the new model equals that of the first 601 model.
I don't know how to embed the vid, so here's the link if you are interested: https://youtu.be/MAnq531RuvA

Has anyone else been sucked in by the new WE 604? I broke down and ordered one on BHQ after my good experience with a WE 601. This 604 just oozes "sexy". I'm also blown away by the idea of a near 3.9" blade with a slim pocket profile and 4.25-4.5 ounces, depending on blade style. Throw in the milling work on the Ti handles and the purple hardware and the blade finish, this knife looks custom for less than $300. It's only a matter of time before these knives are over $400...

Oh my, that is some awesomeness right there. Argh, why did I have to click on this thread? Did you get the tanto? How is the grind?

I just got the 605 from Blade HQ and it's an awesome little knife. I would put them up there with Reate for manufacturing, but their knives are alot less expensive. I won't be surprised to see their pricing jump like Reate's did.

I flip-flopped between the drop and tanto for couple of days. The handle really seems to scream "tanto" but the tanto has that exaggerated grind at the tip like the 601...which I'm already clueless about how I'll ever sharpen.

I checked in today to find the tanto in both blade styles were sold out so I jumped on the drop point.

I just ordered today, so I won't know more about it for a few days. There are some you tube videos that look pretty impressive.

Iceman is right, these remind me of early Reates. It's only a matter of time before the price goes up significantly. You can find some WE's on the interwebs for not much over $200! I remember when the original Reate Horizon B's and D9's were less than $200...I miss those days.

till now i got all 5 models: 601 602 603 604 and 605
All are very well build. Great fit & finish. wesome action. Great materials. If these were made in Europe or USA then we cost double the price. I can only recommend them. BTW on mt YT channel i have introduction/first impressions of all models.

Both of the new 604 and 605 models are real nice and priced to move. 604 should just disappear in the pocket even with a 3.8" blade and 605 with a 3" just right for localities with such blade length limits.

Does anyone know if the 605 opens easily using the blade thumb hole?

I just wish they'd offer models without violet or other funky color screws/clip and two-tone blades. Additionally, non-proprietary screws would be preferable even though they include a tool.

I'm pretty sure they've been making knives for a while now for other companies (wouldn't be surprised if Spyderco accidentally had a hand in this, they have one that looks suspiciously like a Rubicon) so they already have the equipment and experienced labor. All that was required was their own design and probably an even higher level of QC.

Knife being from China and the given price. I'll hold judgement until there are more user reviews instead of "look at this pretty knife"

The 605 i find hard to open with the opening hole. But i have seen a few that could be opened real easy that way. Probably a combination of a hard detent and the way i hold the knife with my finger on the lockbar.

I actually use the knives and they perform as would expected with knives in this price range.
