indeed. but mine and several others had issues with the blade edge not being sharpened well.

my edge wasn't terrible, but that's something i can live with as knives can be sharpened. did you notice any other notable issues?

my main issue is with the action, it's definitely not bad, but leaves me wanting a little more. i can't put my finger on exactly what it is, and it could very much be my flipping technique. but, considering the strength of the detent and the smoothness of the bearings, not sure why it doesn't flip open as crisply.

It's perfect otherwise and I'm going to sharpen it eventually myself.

I did clean mine out and put very little lube on it and it's action is even better now. But... Front flippers take practice. So would suggest keep practicing and try cleaning it out. Check out my videos of it on my Instagram

good to hear that it's otherwise perfect, it's almost certainly staying in my permanent line up (especially as it was a gift). yup, I cleaned and oiled mine as well, i was surprised at how much black gunk a brand new knife could have. if i hold the knife in one hand and flip with the other, it flips and locks with authority, so it is probably due to technique.

i've seen your insta several times, good to know who i was talking to!

I like the inset liner lock. Don't like the branded G-10 patterning. Also don't like the flat scales compared to contoured on the other budget WE knives.

that particular design is not really my cup of tea, but this looks like an amazing value for $100. also, is that a proprietary pivot screw on the show side? because the screw on the other side looks like standard torx or hex. if that show side screw sits in place and is just for show, then this is fantastic news for WE!

The presentation side pivot is not a screw. All screws are torx.

For $100 you get good stainless steel, G-10, ceramic ball bearings, titanium clip and titanium backspacer.

Can anyone comment on the heat treatment of the vg10? We knives do really nice s35vn, was wondering if they pull off vg10 equally as well in comparison to other vg10 knife brands? Or do they do it better?

I’ve been curious about WE knives for a while. I finally brought a 617 and I’m amazed at the quality for the price. What a gorgeous knife. The blade shape with the 2 tone black, sexy. The G10 looks great and is very grippy with lovely texture. This is the nicest G10 I’ve felt. The action is fantastic, blade drops close with a little shake.
I have small hands, I prefer folders with have a handle length of 3.75-4.25” but the 617 carries a lot smaller and a lot lighter than it’s size suggests.
For the last 2 weeks I’ve been rotating my EDC between a Spyderco Slysz Bowie, ZT 0850, Reate Wave and Liong
Mah Warrior One V2 CF. The 617 has kicked them all out of my pocket for the last 3 days.
I’m in Australia, it’s a lot cheaper to order from the U.S. I paid $135AUD shipped. It rivals and exceeds my $200+ folders.
For my next WE Knife I’m considering between a 704, 605, 707 and the 711.
I’m really hoping they bring out a small 3” blade model in a similar style like the 704 but with a 4” handle.

First reports look very promising...A German guy did a extended review with testing on cardboard and the Blizzard turned out to be an awesome slicer and kept it's edge very well. Video is on Youtube (in German) but the pics will tell for themself.

Anyone have one of the new WE Balaenoptera titanium frame lock bearings flippers? The M390 stonewashed or black blade is 3.5" long and 0.13" thick. Weighs just under 5 ounces. $253.30. The titanium can be had in gray or gray/black with seemingly good texturing using the WE logo. Torx screws are used.

Looks nice. And it's gotta be far better than the g10 model with the same pattern that grabs on your pockets.

Just got this guy in the other day and have been using it. Fit is flawless, but the pocket clip isn't great and the grinds are washed out compared to like a KAI produced knife. Almost like they tried to smooth everything out. I've noticed the lack of crisp grinds on a lot of Chinese made knives from different makers, definitely not a bad thing just different. It came reasonably sharp and with the best detent I've ever had. I can easily open it with the flipper or thumb hole, which is fantastic. Nice size too, basically a small Seb with a finger choil. The only other oddity is the bead blasting is very fine, so its picking up scratches from everything. I bet if I rubbed it with my thumb nail for a few minutes it could get a smooth spot. Not a big deal, I'll just hit it with a scotch brite pad if it gets too fugly. Love this little knife though.
