........that Kabar seriously look at DawsonBobs 3D renderings of a KabarBecker BK2 Folder, and consider refining the design and putting it into production, with the first one sent off to DawsonBob.

Sincerely,

The People!

please post up and sign your user name below if you would like to see a BK2 folder like the one DawsonBob rendered here in Woody's thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=733423

the folder:

I can say this...I would buy one of each color

-tan, OD, tan/OD mix, black, orange, etc etc etc

I just caught this. I rented Avatar, and I was off watching that.

Ethan, Paul, I had nothing to do with this. Honest.

On the other hand, it does my poor little ego good.:D

I will personally attest that DB was not involved in this. I just really want a massive BK2 folder. DB made the rendering and a bunch of us went gaga over it.

Serious comment...
With the stuff we put these knives through (chopping, battoning, prying, etc), and the stresses generated by those activities, some SERIOUS design would have to go into the hinge and lock system or before you knew it you would be holding the handle in one hand, and looking around to see where the blade went. While I LOVE the concept, (needs some grinding yet), I question its practicality, but would love Paul or Ethan to weigh in.
If you guys can design a system that could take the shear and moment forces generated during hard use as well as (or close to as well as) the full tang can, then I am definitely in for at least one.

And to whomever did the rendering, be it dawsonbob or someone else, AWESOME work!

i agree, its gonna have to be a stout design, but just like you mentioned you wont achieve full tang fixed blade ability. a joint is always going to be the weakness in any knife design, and that of course will include one with the Becker name on it. i guess my biggest push for this is the blades ability for sheer cutting, not prying or any work that will compromise the lock.

1/2" pivot.

i like the way you think:thumbup:...as for the lock design, i m personally not fond of liner locks due to a bad experience with a high end folder. the axis locks on my Benchmades are my favorite, but thats obviously not a possibility, so why not the traditional Buck style? i love Buck knives and have never had one fail me in over 25 years so i consider them solid. everyone seems to use that syle so it wouldnt be a copywright infringement, correct? just a suggestion. i dont know much about KaBars folders lockup(like the Warthog), would they be a possibility? im sure they are stout and it would be keeping it in the family.

And I would have said a heavy-duty liner lock would be the way to go.
Interested in your experience.

The reason I used a lock-back in this design was that it's strong and easily produced. As Woody pointed out it's an old and proven design.

I considered other locks — and may change to one if necessary — but went with the lock-back for simplicity and reliability.

The final decision on that would depend on the manufacturer, really. There are a number of things that factor into this decision.
