Weights and Fitness Challenge: January

Gotta say, this has gotten me mighty amped up. Makes me want to step it up! Going a little heavier today and do rep based rather than time to max out the reps. My 1.5 and 2 pood bells need more loving.

I'm having the same response to this challenge  I'm surprised about how many light and medium reps I do and how few heavy reps I perform. Hmmm... I might augment my routine so I do a few more heavy or very heavy sets each workout. Now to list my first workout this month!

I did an upper body workout, with tonight's focus being the military press. First I did Qeth's 100 rep bodyweight warm-up, which I can see becoming a staple of every workout. Tonight's lifts were military press, incline bench, barbell curls, triceps extensions, shoulder flyes, bent-over rows, and push-ups.

Warm-up: 100 light reps, 1 BSP
Light reps: 310, 3.1 BSP
Medium reps: 136, 2.72 BSP

Daily BSP: 6.82

Current Total BSP: 6.82

let's see if I got this right (divided into 3 circuits):

150 push-ups
60 curls
70 dips
60 standing crunches
60 body-only squats
= 400 light reps
= 4.0 BSP

izzat right?

Glad you like it :D

Assuming all the reps were easy enough to do 15+ in a row, that's perfect.

Upped the reps some and the weight in a few exercises - 6.72 BSP's today, cumulative - 12.82. Tomorrow I need to focus on MYB but it is and will be just too freakin cold. Probably watch football from the treadmill - might be all I can manage!

500 light reps (100 pushups, 400 abs) with my run so far for 5 more BSP. Will likely do more pushups later tonight too. Cumulative total of 27 BSP. I think I'll be going for the advanced goal with Qeth.

Seeing your numbers jump made me want to up my own numbers. Love it!

Friday's lifting was a deadlift max workout, so my numbers are lower for the day. I also did a non-rep exercise that, despite not being countable, was still effort-filled: farmer carries with dumbbells. I'm not certain how to assign points to farmer carries...

Warm-up: Qeth routine, so 100 light reps, 1 BSP
Light reps: 16, .16 BSP
Medium reps: 12, .24 BSP
Heavy reps: 2, .08 BSP
Very heavy reps: 2, .13

Here, I have 1.61 points. After deadlifting, I walked two laps in my back yard, each an estimated 60 yards with 55-pound dumbbells (I have a big back yard, and I walked the perimeter.) A single lap took around the same time as one of Qeth's warm-up circuits, of which I do two. Therefore, I'm going to assign .5 BSP for a lap of farmer's walks.

I can certainly say by the end of the second set my grip failed and my traps, posterior delts, traps, and calves were on fire. Because of the exertion and time the walks required, I believe that .5 BSP per lap is realistic, particularly when compared to the time and effort it takes me to do 15 push-ups, squats, crunches, and jumping jacks. If any of y'all have a good idea how to categorize farmer's walks among the four categories, I'm happy to hear it. Until then:

Daily BSPs: 2.61

Current Total BSPs: 9.43

I don't see a problem with 0.5 BSP per ~60 yards farmer's walk.

Alternatively, we can assign:

100 yards light = 1 BSP
50 yards medium = 1 BSP
25 yards heavy = 1 BSP
15 yards heavy = 1 BSP

where

Light yardage: a walk that can be done 100 yards without resting, with the last 20 yards being challenging.
Medium yardage: a walk that can be done up to 50 yards with the last 10-15 yards being challenging.
Heavy yardage: a walk that can be done up to 25 yards, with the last 8-10 yards being very challenging.
Very heavy yardage: a walk that can be done up to 15 yards.

I see very heavy yardage being done in a BJJ/ judo/ wrestling exercises where one person carries a 250#+ partner across the mat.

24.91 BSP to date.

Belled down to 36# (1 pood) for lighter sets, and 44# (1.25 pood) for my snatch test.

900 light reps for 9 BSP.
80 medium reps for 1.6 BSP.

35.51 BSP to date.

I like it. Now I've gotta measure my back yard's perimeter :D I interpret the 'very heavy' category as a weight with which a person can stagger 15 yards or less before collapsing or dropping the weights or, if pushing a car or sled, grinding to a halt.

450 medium reps, 600 light reps today, for 9 BSP + 6 BSP for 15 BSP total for the day.

That brings me to a total to date of 42 BSP.

morning warm-up in two circuits (skipped friday and saturday nights, didn't record the morning warm-ups):

100 push-ups
40 curls
60 dips
40 standing crunches
40 no-weight squats
= 280
= 2.8 BSP
+ previous total 4.0
= 6.8 current total

Gotta catch up, here are the last 3 days' numbers:

Saturday, Sunday and monday: 1000 light reps total (push-ups and burpees)
100 medium reps (burpees combined with power lift)

So a total of 16 BSP for now

35.51 BSP to date.
Warmup:

30 pushups
30 ab variation
30 squats
30 jumping jacks
x3

360 light reps for 3.6 BSP

216 heavy reps spread over renegade rows, dead cleans, jerks, snatches, swings, and pistol squats for 8.64 BSP.

12.24 BSP for the day.

47.75 BSP to date.

Good grief, some of y'all are dominant at this challenge! That provides a standard to aim for :D

I did a light workout today, in anticipation of this upcoming week's more intense workouts.

Abs - 150 light reps
Leg extensions, curls, and calf raises - 104 light reps, 32 medium reps

1-5-14: 3.18 BSPs

Current Total: 12.61
