Welcome MVPKNIFE!

I am new to the forum but I have been looking around and reading some of the threads for a little while. I must say that some of the conversations are pretty intense but very interesting. I will also say that while the threads can get pretty heated, everyone respects each others opinions. I think this forum is great and I do learn something new every day.
Thanks for letting me be part of your forum and letting me learn so much about Schrade and its history.
DVM

You are certainly welcome, DVm. As in fact MVPknife is as well. He does know knives.

Hello all, I have not had time to visit or respond to anything today and I am running short on time now, got a little girls birthday party to get to and she will be real mad if Daddy is not there. I did get to read everything over and I appreciate everyone making me feel welcome and I look forward to talking about some of these subjects in more detail tomorrow. I'll talk to you guys tomorrow. JP

Enjoy your family and your evening. I just hate leaving your post as the last one since it looks like you had the last word. Dog gone it you are tricky bringing in the family. They used to tell us in hostage training to carry pictures of our family to get sympathy from those who might be holding us hostage. In any event you are correct family is first. Let me know if there is any extra cake. LT

Well, once again you have all given me a lot to address, so lets get right in to it. It seems as though we have crossed over to the china Subject here so I will address this matter first. I will just be honest here, I'm not real big on producing knives in China, I don't like taking a good American name and sending it to a foreign country, especially Communist China but to stay competitive you must follow the current trends. I know this sounds a little petty but please believe me when I say we did not start it, we tried to avoid it. Sure, we could have built knives in Taiwan, but you just can't get the same quality at a comparable price, and you can't even get close producing knives in Japan, most of their stuff is higher than good American made Product. Someone asked if I had any interest with Taylor and the answer is no, he is not partnered with our Company but we do a lot of business with him. We do liscense some of the Schrade Trademarks from him and we are having these knives made in the USA, some of the knives are being produced by Camillus and some are being produced by our good friends at Bear Cutlery, These knives are exclusive to SMKW. So when you buy one of those Yellow Schrade-Walden stockmans in the original tube packaging, that is why they say "Used Under License from Taylor Cutlery LLC". I'm not sure if all of you are aware but when Schrade was auctioned off Taylor became the sole owner of all the intelectual property, that means he owns all of the trademarks that belonged to Schrade including Schrade, Schrade Walden, New York Knife, Hammer brand, Schrade Cut. Co., Geo Schrade, Imperial, Tradesman, Ulster, Kingston and I'm sure I have missed a few. I know some of you feel like we have misrepresented these new knives but that is just not true. If you read our ads it clearly says "These new knives..." We found over 12,000 of the original tubes in Ellenville, these tubes first apeared in the 1950's if I am not mistaken and that is all we are claiming, the inserts are new and the knives are new..

Someone also asked if we (SMKW) are producing knives in China and the answer is yes. the Rough Rider knives are a house brand produced exclusively for SMKW and BRK, we also produce the Marbles International Series as well as the Remington Global Series. As I stated earlier I am not real big on producing an American trademark in China but this honestly gives people who cannot afford the American made versions a chance to get into collecting some of these bigger names in the cutlery industry. Take it for what it is worth but this was our honest intention from the start of these programs. People have the chance to own a well made knife at a very affordable price, they are great for entry level collectors.

Please know that we are not all about producing knives in China, we have several products made right here in the USA. I hope some of you have had the chance to pick up some of the Beautiful Robeson knives that are produced exclusively for SMKW made by the good folks at Queen, if you have not seen them please give them a good look. They are high end collector knives produced in very low quantities, usually no more than 200 of a pattern produced. this is just one of our lines produced right here in the USA but not everyone can afford a $70.00 pocket knife.

I think I got to everything but once again if I missed anything please let me know and I will address this in a timely manner. I want to once again thank everyone here at the Schrade forum for making me welcome, I am really enjoying these conversations with all of you. And LT, we did have some cake left over, come on down an' sit a spell, I'll be more than glad to share. JP

Mr. Parker, welcome to the Schrade Collectors Forum. I'm sure with your background in knives you will be an asset to the community. I would just like to add that being an average member of the knife buying public, I have never seen a Chinese made knife or tool that compares in quality to the USA made tool it was created to imitate. If there is one I would like to see it.
In reference to your comment about your new Schrade knives, if you would have stated in your ads that they were made after Schrade's closing by another American company I probably would have purchased one.The price seems fair for a US made product, but I knew from hanging out here that they were not true Schrades so I just ignored them.

Rick
PS, as long as you are going to stay around and promote your products, you may as well cough up for a dealers membership.

Now thats funny ( " cough up for a dealers membership" ) so much for the respect of fame or infamy depending on point of view. Ill tell ya I have been digging deep to feel something positve about the communist chinese. I mean what the heck perhapes the good old dollar is turning them the way it turned the japs ( of course in there case we had to nuke them first ) . Who knows?

I am just one old guy and my opinion really does nothing except piss off entrepernaurs and various other minions. Look around no one really cares. However in my case I must admit as just a kindly old guy the only time I feel positive toward them is when I think of an old hunting expression. Happiness is a warm gut pile. AHHHH SOOOO. LT

I guess you could say that the Chinese are giving us the means with which we can slit our own throats, figuratively and literally.

So Utica Cutlery is not making any of these knives? Wasn't some of the tooling shipped from the Schrade Factory to them?

Yes that is rather interesting since I had some information as late as today that Utica was quite involved in the Schrade Walden and some other revision american knives to keep them american. It gets stranger and stranger and also more confusing. LT

Utica could well be involved in the production behind the scenes, as Camillus was with some Schrade production. Inquiring minds want to know! Surely someone has the contacts to get the straight scoop on that.

Or even has the auction results on the machinery showing what went where. I'd even be interested in seeing the preauction equipment inventory which was made public before the auction. Both would yield some important information, not only on where the newer U.S.A. Schrade copies are being made using original machinery and dies, but on the inhouse process capibilities of Imperial Schrade. I am already finding out the company made many, many process changes in the last five years of business, some outsourced, but many advanced ones done inhouse.

Members all: I've had a couple of emails requesting this forum be locked. I am only the Marguerita Moderator here, in charge of making sure all said drinks are made without the use of a blender. I have to go to Cougar Allen or Bastid to lock down a thread, and we here in the Schrade forum take pride in self-moderating the forum. I think we have welcomed the hell out of MVP and I for one am going to stop posting in this thread. Please, let's move on.
