Well, I bent the Chiruwa Ak

It is a Shame it was removed, and that some can't own what they post.
all for the best though.
Yes Jfox did a masterful job of defending his case in an honest a friendly manner.
Good to have him here.
AS for the Guarantee......Don't bet that it won't.

Glad no one was hurt. Always good to test them hard. What size was it? Yep, Karda, masterful. Personally I would have e-mailed Yangdu first.

hey karda,

I removed my posts because i felt bad for being a jerk.

I own what I post and have the choice to remove them if I feel I stepped out of bounds. If you can't respect that, then pm or email me and I'll tell you exactly what I think.

BDWS?

Welcome to my world. I've been a jerk a lot. :D

I keep on trying to balance out those times with better behavior.

I figgur I need to live to be 87.67 years old to break even.

Welcome and come back often. :)

Interesting. I have absolutely no doubt that Yangdu will make it right.

There are a lot of variables at play during the construction of a khukuri. The occasional lemon will come through. It happens with every product, not just these; unlike these, most of those products have little potential for maiming or killing bystanders if they fail, thus the testing procedure recommended by UB. It's considered abusive by some but if a blade will stand this, it will stand anything it encounters during regular use with a significant safety margin included. It will also reveal any serious construction flaws in a safe and controlled environment.

Would jfox's AK have failed during regular use? I don't know. I don't think it's relevant at this point.

Looked like they were edited out of anger.
Respect is an earned Trait.
I will not PM or Email you, I am NOT interested.

I know everyone loves pictures, but I don't have a digital camera at the moment.
I had fully expected to send it back for examination. I never considered she would send me another one just be cause I said so. And yes, I did e-mail Yangdu first. I just thought I should also post here to let everyone else know what had happened. I know all will end well.
Also, I never meant to cause a sandstorm with this.
And bdws1975, I didn't get to read your unedited posts and have no desire to know what you originally posted. No hard feelings all around.

They were edited out of remorse. I realized I smarted off for the wrong reason. Try going through my posts on this site and you will see that i try to be fair and open.
It was a rare show of pettiness on my part.

Take it or leave it,

yes, no hard feelings. the fault was with me, not you. I got ahead of myself and let a bad day color my judgement.

Take care,
Brett

How would I know you e-mailed Yangdu first, joe, you never communicated it until now. Which makes posting here before it was resolved another thing I , Personally, wouldn't have done. If you have to ask why, then you may not understand anyway.

I would like to understand why though.

It had just happened and I e-mailed Yangdu. Afterwards It was still on mind (of course) and I posted it here. I am not sure if I will be able to understand but please try to help me out here. Was it wrong to post a thread on a knife that didn't pass the test?
I wasn't asking for resolution on the matter, just posting my experience. It took somewhat of a slant from there.
Why was it wrong to post if I had already e-mailed Yangdu?

No, I think they are saying it would have been wrong to post something critisizing Yangdu without emailing her and resolving it that way first.

You didn't do anything wrong, you didn't even critisize her, IMO, just let everyone know that lemons do happen. Heck, with the "teapot of boiling water" heat treat they do, I'm surprised it doesn't happen a LOT more often. No harm, no foul.

I understand your point about written word versus face to face very well. That has been my main stumbling block since I started posting on internet forums years ago. I never meant to say that I was "dissatisfied and angry" , just letting you guys know what happened. Hence my "Oh well..." at the end on the original post.

By the way, Yangdu e-mailed me and said send it back, So I'm off to the P.O.

Joe

Have a great weekend Joe, take care on the way to the P.O., winter keeps sneaking up on us here.

mark:)

Well for those who said "bad heat treat" here you go.

I was boxing it up to send back and decided to see just how much force was required to bend this blade. I took the blade in one hand and the handle in the other and tried to bend it across my knee. It broke. Just snapped like a twig.
I didn't put it under my knee and pull, instead it was on top of my knee AND I was standing up so not much force at all was applied.
I am also a pretty small guy, 5'6" 150 lbs. No Paul Bunyan here.
The steel was approx. 1/4" thick inside the bolster where it broke.
The steel was also VERY grainy exactly like cast iron.
I don't know what to make of that since I'm no blacksmith.
I am also a pretty small guy, no paul bunyan here.

Just an update.

Joe

I'd like you to do something for me:
Put on heavy gloves, thick clothes and face/head protection.
Go outside and see if you can snap the blade off.
Do what you did before and see if it will just go ahead and snap off cleanly.
That will tell us much more than just a bend.
IF it wont snap, then that also tells us something.

That's what I just said, it broke in two by pushing it down across my knee. That's while I was standing up in the kitchen. No great force was required.

Joe

Nothing wrong with your posting what happened. I'll admit ignorance of Uncle Bills recommended testing. It's good to know.

My first thought when seeing a thread from a member with 4 posts claiming to have broken his AK was that you were trolling. I envisioned a Noss4 style beating taking place. I was also unsure if the blade had set or just flexed and cracked the bolster. I also have a knack for jackassery and am likely to spew my opinions before getting all the facts. :D

Weird defects can happen with any knife. Obviously these occurances are rare or else they wouldn't offer the "get two free" warranty. I'm sure everything will get resolved amicably.

I know i am new here but i think JFox was in the right to post this. And i knew nothing about testing it before hand. I just ordered one and now i know i should test the blade upon receiving it. This post has helped me out. and everyone knows with anything there are lemons out there. I do not think any less of HI at all. It honestly makes me respect them alot more because they want you to test them this hard and it does borderline on abuse. It is nice to know they back their product and have such a high standard for their product. How many other product tell you when you first receive them to beat the hell out upon receiving them. This is the first blade company i have seen with this high of a standard for their products and the willingness to replace them if they do not meet their own high standards.
