Well...It's Friday...

Yes!! Snagged me a Bushnub 1 with shadetree.

Chris D :D
Chris, had my finger on the trigger on that one. It matches a few others I have. I was just going to see what happened. Glad you scored that one! that evergreen burlap is awesome!

Congratulations Sarah! That Handyman is quite the blue beauty. I am glad it worked out for you to get it. Keep us posted as you break it in.

I am super late to the party. That Sneaky Pete was right up my alley

Probably my favorite of the bunch as well.

The Bullfrog Bowie needs more love. While it may not seem like the most practical of the profiles for a lot of people in that size, it is a fun one and simply looks amazing .

A return to this exchange:
I'm trying to behave ...

You have the rest of your life to behave...

Oh, did that make me laugh. :D

Once upon a time it was the Hiking Buddy for me, until the Handyman was released. Still a top favorite Fiddleback profile and pertinux pertinux you have secured yourself a mighty fine one m'Lady. That handle is mesmerizing

Thanks! Yes, the handle certainly falls into the "entertains your child for hours" category. ;)The layering of color and grain is phenomenal. I've been staring at it off and all since it arrived, and plan to continue. There's always something more to see, in varying gradations of the Best hue.

Congrats Sarah!! That sure is a nice one. :thumbsup:Does it have a name yet?

Hunh, I hadn't thought of that-- but don't even have to think, should it come down to it.

Congratulations! The Handyman is an awesome knife and yours is a beautifully fascinating example. I, for one, am looking forward to your commentary.

glad you like it Sarah:thumbsup:

pertinux pertinux You did get it! It's a beauty for sure! Congrats. I'm looking forward to seeing your daily pics

You all are too kind; thanks. I look forward to learning this knife (which somehow already seems to know me), putting it to good use, and posting up my impressions accordingly.

[I also now have to take back everything I said in VANCE VANCE 's Can it be done? thread. Hypothetical for me nor not, there's no way I'm putting this one down for the foreseeable future. Like the guys that the Meineke Muffler used to to rag on in their old commercials, "I'll make it fit." :p]

The progression is still astounding to me, from the first glimpse of wait-is-that-what-I-think-it-might-be?!?!? last week...

...to hearing that it was THAT, AND with all my favorite appointments, to scrambling around Fotki only to discover that it didn't make the pictures/post for last Friday, and flurrying some messages Fiddleback-ward to... now. What an incredible knife, for me. Indubitably for me.

YOU JUST GOT GRAILED

Y'know, I'd done an admirable job of remaining excited instead of flat-out verklempt until reading your words, here as the day closes.

All afternoon, I've been blown away by how unassumingly Right this knife feels in my hand, the wonder that the handle material is actually set off by natural and white (I love many combinations of liner and pinstripe, and how the different choices can look so different from knife to knife and depending on the handles and pattern, but this is my far-and-away favorite), with 1/8" TT. !!! I sorta just got it All.

I hadn't thought the word 'grail' until you wrote it, but BOOM there it is.

As I wrote above?

Mic Drop.

Congrats on the Handyman! What a stunner that one turned out to be! I also look forward to reading your thoughts as you become even more familiar with it.

Common thickness/tang combos are generally:
1/8" SFT
1/8" TT
3/32" SFT
5/32" TT

A2 is the goto steel. O1 was kind of phased out. CPM154 will pop up once in a while but is costly (in terms of time mostly) to the production process.

Given that FF knives are intended for outdoor/bushcradting use, it makes sense that the majority made would have thicker spines for batoning.

I don't get outdoors in that way much any more so my use is lighter daily use / food prep so my preference is on the thinner side. I think my collection is probably about 60% 3/32". That said, one of my favorite knives is Fiddleback Handyman in 1/8" TT and another is an Osprey K/T Hunter in 5/32" TT.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the write up. I've been in and out a lot in the last few years, but mostly out lately. Last I remember almost everything was 01, and 1/8 was the most common thickness. I do like the 3/32, the F2 I picked up is perfect in that configuration, wish the HB was a bit thinner as well.

Congrats! Do you have one of these yet or have you handled one?
I do Jerry. That's why I snagged it. I was eyeing that one, the bushnub and BC. The SP was awesome too. But held back. Went and pulled my curly maple out in that same model and said yep. Need another. LOL

Thanks, Odaon Odaon . I'm downright emotional over this one, here spending our first full day together. I just canNOT believe it. I didn't know such wood was possible until roughly November of last year, when I spotted this:

That wasn't a knife for me (bigger/other than I'd want), but the blue had me riveted. It just hasn't shown up again on something I've wanted, until now. I'm so glad I spotted it when I did(!).

The Handyman I now have in-hand is so very great. And yet, I'm not intimidated by it(?) or afraid of using it, so: Look out, here we come. [Some knives present themselves to me with a learning curve, and/or seem too 'nice' to use when I have other more mundane choices. This one's Mine, we're in whatever comes next together, and out we go.] Stay tuned. :-)

Sarah, when do we get to see it on the rock?!

Wait, let's try again. Here ya go:

... I'm thinking you mean this rock? If so, I'm flattered that you've paid attention.

(If not this rock/area, you'll have to clue me in.)

I'm eager to get back up there, but the trail becomes muggier/overgrown/tick-ier through the summer months in a way that takes away the Fun, so we refrain.

I'm currently freezing my patunkas off here at home, though, so that means Fall is coming and we'll be back up to the rock soon. :)

That is absolutely the rock I was thinking of; I believe I remember a comment from you about it being a favorite spot. It's easy to see why!

The tapered tang and liners/pin stripes really set off the dyed wood incredibly well. Congrats on snaggin' your "One".

Please don't tell me that temps are droppibg by you. I know it happens, but I like to think that everyone else will have another month+ of 90*/80% humidity like I will.

I thought we were going to get an early fall in CO... its been in the high 80s and low 90s for the past week and a half.

First, my hat is off to you. Such a nice move to call the shop and just nail that one! It's an absolute beauty.

Those scales are incredible. Do you know what kind of wood it is?
