Well time to try Spyderco

I really dig the lil native - it’s the perfect size for what it is. (dies that make sense?) Also line it up next to a Tuff Lite - almost identical profiles but totally different knives that both fit (my) hand perfectly. Different functions but both great tools. Let us know how you find it!

Well I’ll get my Lil Native sometime this week and try it. Btw my gf bought me a Tuff Lite and it’s actually pretty great

I just received my KME 3 months ago and the tuff lite was the first one I sharpened and it was fantastic for that - super easy. Almost as easy as it is to dull the blade 😎 I would buy the heck out of an s30v g10 TuFF LiTe

Dang, all of you guys have me thinking about a Tuff-Lite or a mini now. Honestly, I was looking towards Ontario and such for my "worker" knives, and appreciated Cold Steel mainly for their large knives with solid locks that not a lot of other companies made, like the XL Voyager and Espada. But I bought a GRIK in a package deal when I got my fancy Espada + Voyager, and I see just how good CS small knives are. That ugly mother is a work-horse that I feel I can put to anything.

I feel like Spyderco makes better cutters, but what is the Spyderco I could just jam into things without worry for the tip? I have one idea. The strongest tip on a Spydie belongs to the Sage I got for my girlfriend. I want one for myself.

Didn't read through all of this, but as an old guy/tradional knife carry person I was impressed by the utiltarian use of a Wharncliffe Delica.
My first "modern" knife that has become an EDC.- R.F.--Traditional still L.F.
Also feels good as small S.D.
I was gifted a Sage but a little big for my carry. Good F&F.
Have you heard of the Yojimbo/jumbo? Michael Janich modifies Enduras, Delicas, calls them Janudra, Jandelica, with his wharncliffe profile, and sells 'em with aftermarket accessories that you can put in the backspacer like a marlin spike or a glock tool.

I tell you, it really helped me out when I raised sails to go on my most recent fish hunt. I wanted more of a challenge so I eschewed the usual equipment in favor of only a pistol and a knife.

Hashishiin Hashishiin I got Pro Lite and it is very customizable as you can probably notice...

That is sweet! I am opening my eyes indeed to the customization of Cold Steel knives! I'm very much a beginner in this aspect, as I just tried stropping for the first time this week, but I'm excited to learn, really want to modify a Voyager XL tanto into a wharncliffe, like David Mary David Mary did, it was very nice and clean.

For what it’s worth, which is not much, … I own a grand total of one Spyderco, so I won’t try to name a top 3. That said, I’m not in love with the looks of my Native 5, but I do like the way it handles, and the steel (S30V) is good.

Exactly my thoughts. I'm not in love with most of the spyderco line looks though I do think the Native 5 is slightly better than most of the rest. But it feels/handles very nicely in a variety of positions.

Spyderco goes for usefulness and ergonomics over looks. I used to buy knives from other companies and they all had those sleek looks and handle to blade ratio aesthetics. I tolerated them in my hand. Then, I picked up a Delica. Angel choirs were singing and rainbows and sundogs were playing in the air. It was quite a revelation.

Jordan, the Prolite tanto is BEGGING to be waved. I have always thought that ever since the first time I laid eyes on it. And I must say you did a very nice job of it.
You got it David  It wasn’t hard at all actually. The “hard” part was to adjust the lock bar for itself, so it will not be so stiff when engage the pocket. Everyone knows how solid the CS back/triad locks are, not the perfect lock for waved blade.
‘So my solution was to take off material, off the shoulders of the bottom of the lockbar.
‘this way you are decreasing the friction only when it’s in contact with the round part of the blade.
‘I don’t have picture of the lock bar after my intervention, and my ugly iPad drawing is just that - ugly, but I’m sure you’ll get the idea. It works like a charm, the actual lock isn’t affected at all,, just the opening is much smoother

Well it’s time to try Spyderco as an addition to my EDC rotation. I haven’t had one in my rotation for years and so not sure how some of the newer or revamped models carry so I thought I would ask the BF community. I’m not to hung up on dimensions but really don’t want anything with over a 3.5” blade simply due to comfort. Pricing let’s say $200 or less. I prefer G10 handles or CF but the lightweight isn’t a strong NO. Oh and before ya ask I’m not a PM2 fan, to bulky for me

So what are your 3 top Spyderco EDC models and why?

Thanks
like many have said the delica is a great knife mine is a k390 love it but don't overlook the pm3 great in the hand awesome cutter

If someone is a knife user, not just collecting, stretch 1 or 2 to get the real feel of the design and ergonomics in a great cutting tool.

Honorable mention, Native 5.

UPDATE: Did try Centofante. To big for sure. Also much heavier then I expected, so it’s going back. Also tried LIL Native and very much liked it but sent it back due to lock issue. Also a bit of a design flaw on that knife honestly. I have a Sage 5 on order. We will try that one

My 3 favorites for EDC are the PM2,PM3 and Sage 5.I’m a HUGE Spyderco fan and I like most of their knives.especially the regular non LightWeight models

The Chaparral is my perfect gents EDC. I carry mine in the bottom of the pocket with the clip removed.
The Native is my warm season workhorse (IWB carry) and all seasons choice when I need something more robust than the Chap.
The Millie and the Chief are my cold season users, easy enough to manipulate with gloved hands.

I'll let you know what I think of the Ikuchi in a couple days after I get mine in the mail.

I forgot I was going to report back on this.

I'm really liking my Ikuchi. The blade stock is the same thickness as a Delica, but it feels like it's a stouter blade because of the steeper grind. Even the tip that looks fragile in the pics is fairly thick at the spine, certainly thicker than that of the Delica and quite a number of other knives I have with thicker stock, simply because it has less taper to the tip than the leaf shaped blades do. That said, it's definitely still a gents style knife, although I wouldn't worry much if I had to do some light-medium duty utility type work that went beyond opening mail and trimming loose threads. The action is incredibly smooth, and even tightened to the point of no blade play, it swings freely with zero resistance if you disengage the lock don't let the detent touch the blade.

The slimness of the handles and the disappearing blade makes it very pocketable. Especially if you carry a ton of junk and a bigass cell phone like I do.
