Were will knifes be in a thousend years ?

presently seeing an entire generation whose faces
seems to be perpetually glued on to electronic devices.
appearing as if they rather live in a virtual world.
and with permitting advances in science and technology,
humans in 1000years from today
would have happily submitted their consciousness to a deceptive realm.
so, "Were will knifes be in a thousend years ?"
in cyberspace of course!
the face of humanity then?!
physically nothing more than talking brains in jars,
they are beings of the 4th dimension,
the state of the art generation, being entirely genetically super bred for their brains.
having bio-replicants to carry out labor :-)

Yes, we will need simple tools such as knives. Simple things are best, no matter how advanced technology gets.

The spacing of that is interesting, like a techno-poem. 'Course I realize it was prolly just sent from your phone.

The smart-phone, social networking revolution has left me behind. I have loved computers since the DOS days and so I take my reticence to play with a grain of morphine, eerrr salt.

Part of my reticence stems from hearing the phone companies, just a few years ago, saying they would "make a melding of computers and phones and EVERYONE will have one". They created a need and then filled it. I'm a bit dismayed to see all this computer power used to make a generation of Borg.

Of course I realize that maybe I'm just an old fart now who can't afford a big phone bill. I've got a couple notebooks and a small pad to hijack Wi-Fi while I'm out and I'll prolly jump on the bandwagon when it gets cheap.

The point of this is that no-one knows where this will all go since (for one) it will interact with the profit motive.

I wish I was younger so I could watch.

It won't matter ...your puny knives will do you no good once sky-net becomes aware... Just soylent green for us.

I wish I was younger so I could watch.
the information age disregards physical age.
it bridges age, time and space
all at the touch of the finger tips.
thus, no one ever grows old in cyber space!
just keep those ideas fresh.
it's a fascinating thought,
knowing that all which has been posted here,
might still be accessible years from today;
that is, should powers that be,
deem it fit to be archived.
here at least,
might be a chance for the ordinary person
to expressed thoughts.
and get immortalized as stored data.
no need to write a fat book or stalk a celebrity.
of course by then,
knife carry might be really prohibited
or banned entirely.
by transcending time and space here,
via this present day forums;
one might end up being viewed with disdain
by future parties,
even infamously perhaps,
for having promoted "thought crimes"
long after turning to dust :-).
hopefully, with necessity being the mother of invention;
future generations will see the evolution of p.c. cutting implements
to still have an edc to speak of.
which more than likely, could be electronically driven too.

If we fail to develop some maturity, we may be back to flintknapping....

...and, if they all look like her, we wouldn't mind.

Flint ( maybe ) and Obsidian blades had smooth cutting edges , I believe there are some fields of micro surgery that use them nowdays , and in general lab stuff that lab type people do , for the smooth cutting edge compared to a steel edge .
They might be old tech but they are still current tech

Following the advances in steel tech tho .. way way back the Vikings had , for a time at least , seriously high carbon steel , well ahead of their time check out "Ulfberht" on google if you want to find some interesting history :) . ( or just click this to get the fast n dirty version )

Soo all things considered , "We" have advanced so far that obsidian blades are still in use and unsurpassed ( in some areas ) and hi tech hi carbon steels have just caught up recent to what was being used to kill each other with a thousand or so years ago ..

I guess any advances would be big , if its taken us this long to catch uup to ancient history allready :)

In 1000 years, a race of self-replicating, nude, cybertronic women will rule the earth, and their laser-eyes will makes knives obsolete. Obsolete just like human males with which they used to spawn. Only Powernoodle will remain to rule over his global army of naked fembots. All hail Powernoodle!

Carefully with those laser-eyes, Unit 696!

Lies, more lies and half-truths...She ain't naked...dammit!

Knives have not changed much since humans came into existence, and will change little, perhaps better steels or some new materials yet to be invented. But there is also the chance that there will be nothing more than a barren lifeless wasteland as the lasting legacy humans leave behind, and any knives will be fossilized for future explorers from another world to discover.

you have made a good point as damscus 300 is the closeis we can get to the ones of old but they still have not got ther yet . So may be just may be your right the knife to come is a knife from the past

The classics like the small Sebenza will remain.

SAKs & multitools will be radically different to meet changing needs.

Someone from the Busse family will post annually that a pocket knife will be manufactured shortly. :)

And Rough Rider will be making carbon steel blades "soon".

Sharpened bark

Back to the drawing board after some big environmental event, is my bet.

It's probable that cutting tools will be made of carbon (specifically highly-ordered carbon (diamond) along with almost everything that is made of glass today). How they're utilized is uncertain, but unless a distinctly better material is identified, that's probably what they'll be made from.

Our methods of hand-sharpening will sound as archaic to them as flint knapping does to us.

Maybe humans will evolve out of the need for knives, and chimp will evolve to fill the need for a knife.

Even if metal knives become obsoleted in 1000 years, people will still carry them. If you cut yourself with a sharp knife, you may need stitches... If you cut yourself with a pocket lightsaber, you're going to lose limbs and possibly die.

A blade requires no electricity, no battery or charge. You can be stranded in the wilderness for months and that blade will never run out of juice.
