Whacha Been Up To......

A fellow contacted me to make a sheath for an older folder he picked up, it's seen some use. He found an image of one of my earlier sheaths and asked to make one similar with the same leather colour, which in that case was the neatsfoot oil treatment. It's been a while since I've done that and my wife expressed concern that I would muck up her oven with 'stuff' I explained that all the oven is being used for is to heat up the leather so it will readily accept the neatsfoot oil, which I also heated up a bit before brushing it onto the leather. There were a couple of range marks that surfaced once the oil was applied but that adds character. The knife does lack a lot of contour that I usually want in a folder so the sheath will have good retention, this one will hold the knife secure but not a pop in like say the Buck 110 folders do, but, it will work fine for this knife.

Been just over a year since I received this belt sheath from Gary. Looks the same as it did when I first put it on my belt, where it has been all that time (where does the time go?). Thanks again Gary for providing me such a great sheath. John

Hello Everybody 🙂🙂🙂

So I haven’t been posting much. Re injured my old back injury so was down for awhile. Luckily it healed up nicely, another lesson learned lol.
Anyways here are two customs I finished and shipped. Working to catch up for those on my list.

Welcome back! We missed seeing you're work :)

Thank you my friend 🙂🙂🙂 Yeah was bad for several weeks. Couldn’t really walk even and trying to sleep was worse. But I’m back and just got the ok ( well kinda ) to train again. Going easy and doing core work.
But sooooooo happy to be back 😊

Glad you’re back Bill! Was thinking about you the other day. I’ll pray you heal up quickly and fully.

Great job👍👍👍......I know all about that back shit😭......One twist the wrong way and bed for week +.😥
Stay well.
Thank you 🙂😊

I’m sorry to hear you’ve experienced back troubles. You stay well too 👍👍

Welp...finally embarked on my leather sheath making journey. Hit up Tandy and bought basic tools, thread, leather and whatnot. Watched instructional videos, and, of course, read everything I could find from the craftsman here on Blade forums. Decided to jump right in and try a fold over sheath for a small drop point I am finishing up...Spoiler alert...it did not turn out well.

I have to focus more on initial design and layout, such as increasing the standoff from the back of the knife to the fold. I have learned quite a bit building this "sheath-like object." I learn from doing, vice reading/watching. There are a few procedural steps I also need to change...like doing the stitching groove on the back of the sheath AFTER setting the holes.

All in all, I view this not as a failure, but as worthwhile practice and evolution. My next sheath WILL be better (well...at least serviceable.)

Congrats..... It will not be a problem for you I'm sure.......Your knives and kydex work is phenomenal and so shall your leather.......👍

Not perfect, but at least it's functional, and fits the knife well. edit: still need to rub some neatsfoot oil into it.
