Whacha Been Up To......

It's like a massive knife sheath! Would hate to accidentally scrap one of those ;)

Do they have retention? The sheer diversity of your skill is really impressive Dave, those spur straps are crazy intricate and they came out flawless!
I think I recall scrapping two over the years. Gives a guy some welt material! Both were in trimming the excess after sewing. Slipped and #$%#@#$%^^&$%$##%^$#$%!!! it! It's been some years now since I've done that. I will ALWAYS hit my roundknife on the buffer before trimming one of these nowadays. It has sure cut down on my use of the top row on the keyboard. I've probably made 300 to 400 of these over the years. One of the very first leather projects I can remember getting paid for and that would of been 1988 or so.

There is quite a bit of friction retention but no welt locking them in like in one of my sheaths. I've made them with flaps to lock em down and safety straps but really they're not necessary. I like to think of them as a large envelope of leather. They are actually pretty simple to do once ya get over how big a chunk out of that side of leather one is gonna take. I can get 3 usually out of a side and once I got 5 out of one side! That was mongo huge bovine that side came from.

Thanks you for the kind words!

Decided to try red on black: scout/horizontal carry. I like the way this one turned out.

I'm making a sheath for a tracker knife, 6" blade, 5" handle. I was thinking going vertical with a dangle. (I don't like how my longer knives in a conventional vertical sheath are cumbersome getting in and out of a vehicle - hence the dangle idea.)

But a sheath for my tracker knife with the dangle looks like it will be 13" from top of belt loop to bottom of sheath. 13" seems like a lot to be hanging from a belt.

Or I could make a scout carry sheath. I have never gone scout carry, and I think scout carry would be tough with a coat on.

Most of the tracker knife sheaths I see online are scout carry.

What are thoughts from folks here on how to carry 11" knives?

(sorry I put this post here - I tried to delete it and move it to its own thread but couldn't)

Finished up a few slip sheaths. Two for the Spartan SHF one lined with black sheepskin, one lined with goatskin and one custom to fit a fella’s knife lined with black sheepskin.

Happy Wednesday, ya’ll. More than halfway to Friday now. 😂🤣

Very nice work here guys!!!!

That crackly brown water buff makes a great dress belt too!

Lil pro tip I was thinking on the other day as I was prepping a belt to be carved. Ya ever run your finger along the edge to help use it like a guide for your swivel knife cut? Here we're cutting a marked line to form a border on a belt to be oak carved:

Bout the time ya get half way down the first half of the belt your finger is going ow, that hurts! But it works so well what's a guy to do? Well ya bust out the size 0 edger of course:

Edge just the top edges and then finish your cut. The size 0 removes just enough to make that edge not dig into ya but not so much as to interfere when you are edging the belt for real after its all done.

Just shipped this belt to CO:

Fellow had a very rugged knife, the kydex sheath has excellent retention but he lacked a way to mount it onto his belt and asked if I could make some kind of adapter. While a simple piece it still needed to be done right, 8-9 oz leather, folded over and leather skived down and glued fast. Using stainless steel hardware that has an antique copper look, I fastened the adapter to the kydex sheath.
He wanted to wear this on his left side, his belt is 1 3/4" wide and a little over 1/8" thick

That should last him a longish time, the screws I put some blue loctite on to help prevent them from coming loose.

Pretty damn cool.....Great idea and job building it....👌

That first one is one pointy knife. I have made a few with points like that and the grinding is about as scary as it gets, particularly after heat treat. Very nice job on knife and sheath.
Randy

Thank you. :)

Just for claritys sake (not sure if you are under the impression I made the knife), but the pointy one is from a guy who goes by Scorpion 6. I picked it up from Bladeshow this year. :)
