Whacha Been Up To......

He does!

I should also mention, he didn’t just do the embossing, but also some cutting, dying, gluing and most of the edge finishing work.

He didn’t want to stitch. Haha. He wanted it to look “perfect,” his words.

Proud PAPA.....😉.......👍👍👍

normally, I avoid blemishes on the hide because I think it usually looks bad. But I was eyeing up the scar on this one hide, and it just seemed perfectly sized and the right kind of curve that I had to use it for this Carothers HDFK sheath.

I've made a bunch of these sheaths, but this one is a real stand out, to me at least. I don't expect a lot of people like scarred leather- like I said I don't- so I don't blame ya if it's not your cup'a.

Your lines are always unique. Nice and compact too. Love it.

Natural scars are my favorite. Gives the sheath some very unique character!

I broke down and got an arbor press, hoping to try it out tonight! Worse case, I can use it to set kydex eyelets and stuff! Been eyeballing the Cowboy Outlaw, but it's a lot of $$$ for the handful of leather sheaths I do. If the arbor press helps me make straighter holes, I will be happy!

Personally, I would never consider that a blemish, but see it as added character, a conversation piece, history, which I would wear proudly.

Very nice work I say.

The scar adds character.
Nicely done.

Ok, so got to play with the arbor press tonight. Definitely makes it easier to hold the punch vertical so the hole stay in the groove's front and back. Got used to the 2 prong chisel to go around corners and the force needed to go thru the layers without going too deep and burying the threads. Played with the new laser cut template, saw it is a touch too short height wise, so I will revise and cut a newer one tomorrow.

Sounds like you are getting it dialed in.

One thing to keep a watch on is how sharp the ends of the prongs are, If they are dull, you will have a tougher time getting through multiple layers of leather.
Ask me how I know 😇
So keep them sharp and put a polish on them too.
