What’s your least useful knife?

I'm just curious ... How does a chef's knife become obsolete? I can see one design being better than an another, but, obsolete?

I’m not sure what he’s getting at but despite getting a nice set of kitchen knives a year or two back. I use my edc knives for almost all of my food preparation.

maybe this one.

so useless that it had no sheath until I made some months ago.

I forgot my usuall knife one weekend and I felt naked without it,so on impulse I bought a MAXAM lockback with allen screw design at a gas station ,because it looked cool . I use it very few times and already the blade is so loose ,I threw it in my parts knives. On the other hand I bought a MAXAM folding utility blade knife and it has been just wonderful.

I have a whole bag of plastic butter knives. They are more useless than an elevator at a claustrophobic convention. They break when I dip them in peanut butter. My kids dropped one on the floor, and it ended up deanimated in labrador poo. How about that?

Kershaw Junkyard Dog II. This knife is a beast but that's not the problem. It's the clip. It looks like I'm headed to a Star Wars convention. Replacing it costs more than the knife, removing it and letting this monster roll around in my pocket is not going to happen. I like the black G-10 and blade shape but it's not going anywhere. It lives in it’s box doing NOTHING. If Stars Wars is on TV I guess I'll take it out clamp it on and nerd out. :D

A drill, dremel tool, and trip to your local hardware store will completely resolve the issue. If the hardware store doesnt have anything small, find a shop that sells Remote Control parts.

I turned the "Batman" clip into a slim clip, and converted it to tip up using some small nuts and bolts w/ locktite...I had the tools already so the project cost me about $3 and 30 minutes. Thats one helluva knife to let go to waste over a clip.

anything in the box that is serrated, or partially serated, including a Brand New Al Mar Eagle Talon auto, that I bought at a show, the SOB did a sleight of hand on me and gave me one that was partially serrated, instead of the plain edge I bought, When I complained, he just just shrugged and said all sales final.....thats ok, I called the IRS on his later and said he was running a cash business and not paying taxes.....two can fight dirty.

I've got a little one hand Gerber that I got for $15 from Target. Can't stand it because it doesn't hold an edge for nothing. It just sits there...waiting for my son to get old enough to wear it out good.

My Emerson CQC7B-Mini. I've never been more disappointed in a knife. It came poorly sharpened and, despite what Ernie Emerson says, the chisel is just on the wrong side of the blade for a right-handed user. The only part that has lived up to my expectation is the wave.

Next purchase - a waved Delica 4, only because Benchmade don't make a mini-griptillian with one.

Are those even legal where you are?

It's my benchmade Morpho. It's not legal to carry anywhere, so I can't use it anywhere, which is too bad cause it's an awesome little knife....after that I'd have to say my Mantis Karambit, but that's also by far and away the cheapest knife I own. Not really keen on carrying it because it's clearly meant to be used as a weapon, not a utility knife, and I don't wanna get hassled by local law enforcement. Same goes with my Smith and Wesson Hawkbill, except that one is also over 4 inches for the blade.

I have a limited edition Benchmade that doesn't get used, cause I don't wanna get it all scratched up, but it's a very usable knife. After that I got a Benchmade rift that's currently my go to knife if I have to use it for anything. I got a CRKT fulcrum lock that happens to be good for shaving if I can't get a razor and makes for a great box/letter opener.

Microtech Lightfoot.
Carrying it right now. Phenominal knife, but with its skyrocketing value and tactical design, it's really a glorified letter opener to me. Okay, a letter opener that gets a LOT of oohs and aahs around the office. :D

Some Fingerhut piece of crap my Mother-in-Law thought I'd like. Made out of recycled soup cans in Pakistan.

An antique 9" cleaver. It is thick, heavy and so purpose designed that unless I am truly cleaving, is useless.

IIRC, it's a simple waved liner-lock or near enough. Legal, but unwise to import in the present climate.

One can own any knife one pleases in the U.K; I have never even been able to locate a specific law banning mere possession of ballistic knives. What is illegal with a wide variety of knives is purchase or sale, alongside importation and giving or trading. Essentially many knives are either non-transferable or open only to illegal acquisition.

My AK bayonet and my CETME bayonet are pretty equally not useful, aside from being curios of sorts. I don't own the guns that they go to, and they do little but add to my collection.

I have both safe queens and users, but the Benchmade Gaucho is neither: I hate the reverse tanto/recurve edge and it is so ugly I do not even want to see it!

I don’t mean to hijack the thread but I was under the impression that locking knives of any kind were illicit in the UK.

Edit to say: I don’t know if its possible to hijack my own thread.
