What about knives/knife people just makes you laugh?

The only thing that bothers me is when people say things about a knife that are just clearly not true. And yeah, I know everyone has a different perception and there's nothing wrong with being excited about/really liking a knife.

But an Adamas does not disappear in your pocket, a 0560 is not indestructible, etc etc

Mine does for me

1) People buying Cold-Steel or SOG thinking they can get something for nothing.

2) The super-steel rat race. Yeah there's definitely a difference in quality and I carry S30V, but people shitting themselves over the new S90V this or that (rolls eyes).

3) The amount of bullshit in the industry.

Something for nothing. I'd take a Cold Steel over plenty of other high priced supposedly superior knives.

Like I said, there's plenty of bullshit, but it goes both ways. Cold-steel is a shit company.

Says the guy who has 37 posts and probably has never owned a cold steel product. I would trust my life to the two that I have (srk and master hunter). You can criticize their marketing and some of their mall ninja offerings, but blanket statements about how bad they are come off as completely ignorant. There are a lot worse knives out there than cold steel......

When someone claims that titanium is the best blade material and steel sucks compared to it .

Nobody's going to deny that some of Cold Steel's products are of a shitty quality. But that doesn't mean the entire Cold Steel lineup is the same.

Tactical people. I've got a friend that bought a "knife" that had a 11 inch mystery meat blade, brass knuckles, a skull crusher and an "electric" blade. He was so proud too because he only paid 8 bucks, then turned around and scoffed because I paid 250 for a Southard that "only" has a 3.5" blade and "nothing else" :grumpy:

God I hate people like that. Especially the ones that wont even make the slightest effort to understand your views. They just cling to their own ignorance. The decent thing to do is just not say anything at all. Theres no good reason to tell someone their hobby sucks, just because you dont understand it.
Ive had plenty of run-ins with people like that, and they used to make me quite mad. But now I just kinda accept it and stay out of arguments for the most part. Obviously Ill try to explain my point as best as possible, but theres really no point in arguing with someone who knows a different truth than you.

Usually the people that start out with cheap, crazy looking junk branch out and become history buffs(historical weapons and replicas), collectors who are after the next big thing, or users who refine what they want and look for the best performance. Some people are a combination of the three. Anyway, I feel like these people have matured in their hobby/pursuit enough to identify quality in whatever form they prefer, while the adults still buying up the junk are caught in a childhood fantasy.

Worse knives? Perhaps the fraudulently marketed "Smith and Wesson" knives. Otherwise Cold-Steel is a bottom feeder, on the same level of SOG and Gerber. Very cheap garbage with grossly inflated pricing.

If you judge my credibility on number of posts alone, then you're a no-lifer, plain and simple. You have no life.

I owned the Cold-Steel Kobun, just to see what exactly all these idiotic man-children were fawning over. It's AUS-8 was just as shitty as that of SOG's Flash 2. It's handle was extremely slim/skinny and built with very cheap rubber. Impossible to grip with confidence. By the force of my fingers I could bend the rubberized choil in half, such was its shittiness.

I use all sorts of knives with various steels and handle materials, but I will say that the current knives Cold Steel produces are pretty rock solid. Though I do think many of the fixed blades are overpriced for materials used. I'd say they're beater knife level, but you can REALLY beat the s*** out of them, especially with the Tri-Ad lock.

What would you use in their place, for the price?

Where exactly do you see inflated pricing in their line up? 25 bucks for a carbon steel fixed blade that I can do anything with? Heck yes! The thing that you are missing about them is that they cater to everyone. That's why they market so aggressively. They try to make a knife for every niche, including cheap knives. I think that every one of their products stands up well in its price range.

"I tried a grand total of ONE cold steel knife, and I didn't like the ONE that I tried. You see, I'm a knife expert, and have such an elitist attitude and caviar tastes that cold steel couldn't possibly make anything worth a damn...." Troll.

I see your point on SOG, although they do make a few good products. Gerber, ehhh, they make a few that are worth a chit. Cold steel makes quite a few quality knives. Their AUS-8 is actually pretty good stuff. It's heat treated right, easy to sharpen, and holds an edge an acceptable amount of time. It's far from a shitty steel.

If we judge your credibility on here on number of posts alone, we are no lifers? We have no lives? One has nothing to do with the other... Hey, you know what, if you drive a Honda, you worship the devil! Makes about as much sense. Nice logic.

I think next time you want to evaluate a knife, you should, ummmm, I dunno, actually use it? Instead of bending the squishy rubber choil, etc? And hey, maybe try one of their more quality offerings?

This brings me to another thing that makes me laugh.... People who condemn an entire brand based on their "non-experience" with one freaking knife.

^^Exactly. But I think its time to move on.
I too would try to tear apart his posts, but that would be stooping to his level. Time to stop feeding the troll, guys

But what do I know?? Im just a "no-lifer." I obviously have no life because I informed him that he wasnt the most experienced around here and that he shouldnt make inflammatory blanket statements that are based on nothing. Yup, I should just retreat back to mommy's basement right now. We obviously have a badass up in here, and one thats willing to call out the "no-lifers"

True. I used to carry cheap junky tacticool knives. But then I matured when I found BF...... There are many people that dont even DESIRE to change. These are the people that make me mad. If they were just a LITTLE willing to hear me out when I explain my enjoyment of higher end knives, I could at least respect them for disagreeing (sorta). But what they do is just completely stupid. It would be equivalent to someone raised on Ford trucks their entire life and never knowing anything about Ferrari's, and just saying that their Ford is better without even being willing to learn about Ferrari's first.

You've got a pretty tough sell on your hands here with your position.

Fascinating. And what other Cold Steel models have you owned and tested?
