""It's thanks to us that this country is what it is to this day, and what [it] will be for the future," said Ardaya Barron, a native Bolivian who joined the protest in Washington

This quote I find completely offensive.:thumbdn: America is what it is today because of the brave men and women who fought the most powerful country on earth for our liberty. We are what we are today because we have stood up and defended liberty in every major war since then. WE (our boys or our money or both) defeated fascism and communism. We are what we are today because we have found a way to mix cultures, and religions without killing each other over our differences. Mr Barron has quite an inflated sense of worth. What the hell has Boliva ever done worth a cup of urine by the way?

In fact I find much of the recent protest quite offensive. I'm not anti immigrant, I am anti ILLEGAL immigrant. I just want immigrants to abide by our laws and pay into our systems with TAXES and didn't just expect a free ride. Personally I view illegal immigrants as criminals, and an albatross around the neck of law abiding citizens. With them gone we will pay more for our onions, but way less for our health care.

Did you know that Nombre comes before Name on the SS form? When my daughter was born I was suprised by that. Think about it...

Nombre/Name___________________________________

That just burns me up. Political correctness is a tub of pussified bullshit! I will rail against it at every possible juncture.

Yesterday the Mexican govt siad they would help us curb illegal immigration (their second biggest economic producer) if we would do three things: give plenty of work visas to satisfy the "migrants", give health insurance to the "migrants", and allow the "migrants" to collect social security. Now how is that fair or reasonable. Sounds like they believe they are dealing with the FRENCH.

Additionally it really ticks me off that the Mexicans continually chant "Osama, Osama, Osama" at their soccer rallies. EEEEEEEEEEFFFFFFFFFFFFFF Mexico. They are not our allies. I hope we build a fence, electrify it, fill the Rio Grande with crocs and pirannahs, and station our Marines down there too. Why is there no smiley with the finger???????????????

Don't give up America. Do as Georgia has this week and reform immigration law.

Rant off.

Quote is from article: http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/03/28/immigration/index.html

I'm kind of curious where all the french bashing comes from. Anyone care to enlighten me?

I'm Cajun French. I give it to the French and the Cajuns pretty hard. Don't take it wrongly.

Seriously?

France opposed U.S. invasion of Iraq (where they were making boucoup $$$$$$$$ due to fraud in "Oil for Food Program") for reasons that seemed logical to the government and people of France. (In opposing the war, they were like the vast majority of Europe.) They called the U.S. names ("Les cowboys") (like lots of citizens of the U.S.). They radiate the attitude that they are a mature, sophisticated culture whereas the U.S. is a childish, unsophisticated culture (otherwise, we'd agree with them - and speak French). (Anyone watch the rioting in France for the last couple of days? Very sophisticated rioting, don't you think?)

In return, those in the U.S. offended by the opposition and the name-calling, said nasty things about France and the French -- often focusing on France's 194-year losing streak in war. (Anyone who got help from us is supposed to be grateful and support us in all things.) The implication is that the Franch (and most others) oppose the war because they are cowards. (Apparently, one cannot oppose war 'cause it seems like a bad idea -- at least if you're French - or those "cowardly" Russians.)

When it comes to problems with immigration, I doubt that France has anything they'd like to say to the U.S. at present.

Whereas we have two political parties united only in their mutual unwillingness to do anything serious about asserting one of the essential attributes of national sovereignty - controlling who has access to our territory.

Do you know that we already have laws making it a crime to employ illegals and requiring specified types of ID before you hire anyone?

You do you know that the laws are virtually ignored, right?

The vast majority of the illegals come here to get jobs.
Bears come into camps to get food.
Come on, people, is this tough?

The French kick ass. They are rioting for workers rights right now:thumbup:

I loved it when the French Farmers trashed the McDonalds a while back:thumbup:

As far as the immigration thing. There were what 500,000 in the streets in LA?

Say half were illegals. That's 250,000. What? 100,000 more people than we have troops in Iraq? If they can turn that many folks out in ONE CITY you can be DAMN sure the politicians are afraid of pissing them off.;)

Interesting that this issue puts some of the far lefter Democrats in bed with the corporate interests that seek to scab out the american worker that usually cozy up to the far righter Republicans.

I'm all for legal immigration also. However the whole "jobs that Americans won't do" BS is BS. The reasons that they won't is that companies can get illegals to do them for substandard wages. Construction jobs used to be good living wage jobs and now go to most construction sites and you'll see a lot of folks that are probably not legal.

I guess illegals help keep inflation low in the short run, but I think in the long run it will be the American middle class that will pay the increased insurance premiums to make up for when they go to the hospital with no insurance, who will pay the increased taxes for teachers to teach them english and absorb the kids into the local school system and provide additional police, fire and other services.

Is getting something on the cheap really worth it in the long run?

Damn. For some reason Thomas didn't reem me too badly, and HD actually agreed, sort of. That must be a record. You're right Thomas I dont respect the French lately, and never have I ever the russians. I am working on it, but its a process. It takes a long time because those nations have to earn it. The russian thing has been with me since the cold war. I can't seem to give it up. We had to watch those dadgum day after films, and they scared the shatfire out of me. God bless Ronald Reagan!

In the next election I am voting for whichever candidates I believe will deal with two important issues: illegal immigration, and property rights. Georgia has actually stepped up in both of these areas. And they've also begun to move toward a more Floridaish self defense policy too. Unfortunately they turned down the 5% fee on wire transfers to Mexico. That happened yesterday. Dayum.

If this is true, it is horrible. I suspect a lot of behavior of our 'allies' is not reported by our press for a variety of reasons.

I want to see some legislation to keep companies from abandoning their employees pension programs.

I'd like to see something done about the deficit and national debt.

The property rights thing for me is problematic. On one hand I think the emminent domain thing is out of hand, but I'm betting money this will be handled more a the state level. On the other hand around here property rights can mean a coal company can open a 2000 acre mountain top removel strip mine above a community and the burden of proof is on the lower and middle income people to prove that the flooding was caused by leveling thousands of acres.

Also in the Eastern Panhandle the chicken farms are putting a hell of a lot of coliform bacteria in the Potomac by spreading too much poultry manure on their fields. On one hand they should be free to fertilize their property. On the other hand the public should have the right to clean streams.

I'm real sensitve to property rights stuff. I nearly got my farm taken for an airport. However after a lengthy battle a bunch of difft groups got the FAA to scrap the project because the port authority was cookign the books on the cost benefit analysis. That was 2 years of speaking at public hearings, writing reps, and raising hell. But often the property rights thing is more about protecting the developer, the polluter and the exploiter rather than protecting the private landowner.

The evening after 9/11 there were people dancing in the streets outside a number of mosques in Chicago. The Chicago police blocked off the area to protect the muslims and there was never any press on the incident. I heard about if from my wifes parents who live nearby. Yes, there are gaps in reporting.

Couldn't agree more. I really liked that about old BC. That was pre-911 though, and we werent at war.

Yup. They're rioting for the right to lifetime employment without regard to performance. And I hope they get it. We need every edge we can get. maybe the rest of the EU workers will catch whatever it is that has made the French nuts on "job security."

I loved it when the French Farmers trashed the McDonalds a while back:thumbup:
Yup. McDonalds, the focus of eeeeevil in our time. Or is it just lousy food? Well, never mind. They did it because it was a symbol of the U.S., which they hate.

As I know you know ('cause you refer to it), it's the illegals value as below minimum wage, non-union, no fringe benefits, no Social Security contribution, no worker's comp contribution labor to the R's and as cheap votes to the D's that makes them a force that gives pols the Yellow Stain Blues. Amazing guts to call out the government on their illegality, but why they blame Bush is a mystery because he's weak as Hell on the issue.

Interesting that this issue puts some of the far lefter Democrats in bed with the corporate interests that seek to scab out the american worker that usually cozy up to the far righter Republicans.
Name me one D Senator who is in favor of effective measures to stop illegal entry into this country. Must be one. One?

If I lived in France right now I would be protesting the new employment laws as well. Here in BC we have a 'training wage' program where for the first 500 hours minimum wage is lowered by $2, many large chains will hire teenagers up untill 500 hours then fire them. I can imagine this new law in france would have a worse effect. I am all for employment being based on performance but this new law requires no reason to be given for firing young people. Poor performance should be a valid reason for terminating employment but some reason must be needed. A freind of mine was bartending in Liverpool, a week before he was due to start recieving holiday pay he was accused of stealing and fired. There will always be dishonest employers but this sort of law would only make that sort of behavior easier. A healthy economy requires protection of the rights of both workers and empolyers.

"Healthy economy."

What is the unemployment rate in France right now? What has it averaged for the last ten years?

I meant that as more of a general statement on economic policy than as commentary on the french economy, which is suffering from brutaly high unemployment.

When government decides how many employees an employer has to keep on the payroll, there are consequences. However poorly private companies in general manage their businesses, government has proved even less capable in that management, however pure the motivation of government's "help."

The "medja" says "young people" in the French workforce have 25% unemployment. How likely is it that an employer will hire "on spec" when he or she knows they are, in effect, hiring for life? Better to make due with the employees that you already have -- and leave the prospective employee unemployed..

lets give the fence jumping scum better health care than tax paying american citizens and social security-while were at it lets pay companies to move factories to a communist country-maybe start a war and lie about why-continue to lock away pot heads and let killers go free-make sure no new jobs created pay over 7 bucks an hour and have no benefits-tax the trees in your yard or the view you have(vt has a view tax)-lets make it legal for private developers to take your property-let big oil rape americans over fuel cost's-let big power do the same(cny has the 2nd highest fuel and power costs in america and few jobs anymore that pay over 7 bucks, how can families survive? )

there is no tax base from factories anymore,we dont make anything-so local state and federal govts have to find wayds to legaly steal from us with taxation without representation-who the fu#$ was the einstien who thought of taxing trees and views, had to be a lawyer-

if we dont revolt with our vote NOW -there will be nothing for our grandkids in 20-30 years

Please don't let this thread take a racist turn. I am not mad at hispanics in general, or any legal immigrant. We have some very upstanding members here who have immigrated and are valid Americans. I am mad about illegal immigration, looks like many of us are, but I won't resort to namecalling, labeling, and racism. Rosco, would you please edit your post.

The legality of an immigrant's status aside, one matter continues to confuse me. Grandpa immigrated from Finland in 1914 and they wouldn't let him off Ellis Island until he could prove he spoke English. Recently I was in contact with a groups of Somalians who all voted in the last election but could neither read, write nor speak English. How did we get to here from there?

Illegal ? Could we look at it as unregulated for the moment ? As unregulated no matter who and no matter what comes across . While I am sure a good and even high percentage of those crossing that line just want their piece of the American apple pie . They are also willing to work darn hard at it . They are willing to pay taxes , do jury duty and whatever else it takes to be a citizen . Unfortunately when not regulated immigrants bring with them the lowest of the low . Whether it be high volume drug smuggling or criminals of other sorts and all the undesireables that go along with that lifestyle . Illegal ?sure it is . It must be stopped and regulated . In that way the criminal element is at least kept at bay and those willing to work are allowed through . Isn,t that what its all about ?
