What are some features on a knife that tun you off?

- Tanto points
- thick grinds, obtuse bevels, false edges
- recurves on folders
- blood grooves
- karambits
- FRN,Zytel etc for handles
- "half-baked" chisel grinds i.e. big bevel one side small on other. WTF
- waved opening
- serrations that can't be sharpened
- cord wrapped handles
- skull crushers
- integral gutting hooks on top of blade
- tip-up carry
- blade play

you knocked out alot of top makers....

a lot of people here seem to hate glass breakers. WHY?

I'll bet you'll be thinking about that lowly glassbreaker as your sitting trapped in your vehicle in the river, or a similar critical situation. SNIP

Wouldn't my gun work just as well if I were trapped in a car? Or would a bullet just pass through a single hole without shattering the glass? <--that's a serious question, not being a smarta**

There aren't a lot of things that automatically knock a knife out of consideration for me. A lot of things folks have listed have their place if they are used properly.

Things I don't generally like, but I'm willing to make exceptions for:

serrations
liner locks
tanto points
dull factory edges
sabre grinds
chisel grinds
FRN
obnoxious marketing

Things that will automatically disqualify a knife from my consideration:

spine serrations
excessive/ oversized text on the blade
poorly thought out and/or ugly design (not necessarily the same thing!)
inferior quality steel (the 440 and AUS series are right out- just not for me)
"wing walk" handle inserts

not if your unconscious. (of course a glass breaker wouldn't work then either...lol)

i'm referring to people that use their glass breaker regularly (SAR/police/fire etc)

The gun would work- door window glass would shatter. But your eardrums won't thank you for it.

I wonder what makes a troll.

Makes you believe in biological determinism because why would anyone chose to be an idiot.

- Liner Locks!
- Slick handled knives (especially those without a finger guard)!
- Non ergonomic handles (knives are supposed to be made for human hands)!

1. Tanto blades
2. "Military" association with the name of the knife. (Edit: I don't mean like "Spyderco Military" but rather knives with "Delta Force Edition ect names)
3. "Kris" style blades.
4. Bad serrations.
5. Those handguard serrations that cut up your fingers.
6. Blades with holes in them to save weight.
7. Gold etching/paint.
8. Grips/handles with sharp/rough edges.
9. Stupid coating design (tiger stripes, faux damascus ect.)
10. "Stainless steel" stamped on the blade with no further information.

All I can think of.

S&W "Special Tactical" and "Extreme Ops" and "Homeland Security," for example? lol

I tend to give each knife a chance and understand that what appeals to me is just MY preference and doesn't mean much, but:

1. Half serrated blades; go all the way or not at all
2. Any nice wood in the handle; I don't want to feel bad when it falls on the driveway and goes skidding
3. Beadblast blade, I don't like the way it looks and would rather not give it the chance to rust
4. MADE IN CHINA; I can't stand the Chicoms....
5. Lack of proportionality between the blade and handle

1. Serrations (including combo edges and sawbacks, excluding bread/steak knives)
2. Slippery handles
3. Liner locks (I would prefer a slipjoint instead, even)
4. Fantasy knives
5. Guthooks
6. Thumbstud only assisted openers
7. Coated blades
8. Chisel grinds
9. "Stone washed" metal finishes
10. Lack of a latch gate on a balisong
11. Giant ricassos
12. Obnoxious etching/inking or other writing on the blade
13. Tanto tips
14. Impractical blade shapes
15. Karambits
16. Hawkbill blades
17. Glassbreakers on anything that isn't a rescue knife
18. Sharp edges where they don't belong
18. Over the top tactical styling
