What are the LEAST FAVORITE Knives You Own?

While the overall feel of the Gerber Paraframe is quite nice, it doesn't hold an edge for shit, and recently the framelock arm broke completely off (luckily this was when I was going ot close it anyhow). Not a fan of that knife. The mini has greater favor in mine eye, though. With its size and fairly soft steel it'll take a keen edge real easy, and wont see the heavy cutting to destroy it rapidly... I worry about the lock breaking, though.

I do miss my Junglee Sahara Jr, though I'm tempted to go cold steel this time.

I just remembered a knife I saw for sale at Pep-Boys that is guaranteed to be on everyone's least favorite list. It was a no-name brand key-chain sized folder. The handle was made out of thick, SOFT rubber! It had a liner-lock that was thinner than the side of a playing-card! The blade looked like it was made out of chrome, with serrations cut into it. The thumb-stud, surprisingly, was more comfortable than some that I've seen on Custom-made folders! ..... The key-chain folder was sold from out of a shallow bin, for .99 cents each!

(Got to say, I generally enjoy shopping at Pep-Boys. But, I think I'll get a Spyderco Ladybug or Jester; if I want a key-chain folder).

Thats actually really funny you mention that, I worked there for like 3 weeks or so. They gave everyone that worked there one to open boxes. That thing was terrible. I ended up using either an Endura or a 710D2 while working there, and actually had someone complain about the guy opening boxes with a sword. I got a good job offer after screwing off there for 3 weeks so I left :D

another CRKT m16

only liner lock that's ever failed on me -- didn't even need a spine whack.

--Dave

Failed you?! I cant get mine to fail, and it has an extra lock to engage so that the liner lock doesnt slip out if you hit it accidentally. Ive wacked mine numerous times on the spine and the lock just doesnt slip. mine goes almost dead center on the blade. And for everyone putting the m16 down, i have an m16-03 and i love the knife to death. So :-P to you all. My least favorite would have to be my buck multi tool. it crapped out on me real fast and the pliers such one their broken.

I guess the only one I really dislike is my SOGgy Tomcat. It is hard to open the rubber grips are too sticky and I cant for the life of me get it half way sharp. Steven

I hate my new Caly 3 because it's so perfect it forces me to ponder my own inadequacies..........

A Ka-Bar Impact Tanto. Beautiful knife, but the tiny handle tapers toward the end, and is shorter than my fist. It just strikes me as poorly designed, especially when the Ka-Bar MULE I have has a shorter blade and three times the handle.

Initially, I hated the MULE because it's huge and ugly. But it grew on me, and seems like a practical, usable hard-use folder--that's just a wee bit big for civilian carry!

I love the design and feel of my Gerber Game Pro and Freeman, I just wish I'd known their blade steel was 440a before I used my Gerber store credit on them. I'd rather have bought a Gerber/Fiskars hatchet.

A Lone Wolf Lobo auto.

Excellent materials, brilliant design by Butch Vallotton, horrible execution.

The blade finish was crappy, the scales didn't match the liners, the tension on the hidden scale release was so light that it would open in my pocket, and, if all that wasn't bad enough, the spring overrode the liner lock, causing the lock to fail to engage.

Customer "service" was essentially non-existant.

First, and last, Lone Wolf product I'll ever buy.

Sog X-ray vision and Cold Steel Recon 1. Locks on both broke less than a week after I bough them. Thought I was doing something wrong, but the reps said they actually get those models returned all the time for that problem.

Not trying to rag on any companies, though. SOG took care of the X-ray Vision and the store I bought the Recon 1 from replaced it.

not many people like crkt eh? bought a tanto cordwrapped crkt. who sharpens the blade into the handle wrap? vacation buy, serves me right!

the two POS Pakistani Moran ST-23 copies that I bought to get the handle and blade proportions and outline from. Absolute garbage and about 30% larger than the real thing....cartoon knives:mad: Of my real knives, my least favorites are my EK bowie (paracord handle.....bad idea in any application in my opininion....sorry strider, et al. and epoxy makes it even worse by taking away whatever grip benefit you get from the uncoated string)) My second Gerber Mk 1 (stainless....blech!!!!) which replaced my original tool steel 70's model that was stolen out of my car, and my Al Mar Mike Echanis knife. Not sure what they were thinking but Al Mar, like the Paki's made the knife about 25% too large. I have handled some that were the correct size and they feel much better, but in hindsight, neither of them are what I would want to carry into combat, but what would you expect from a knife designed by a guy who blew himself up while throwing grenades from a cargo airplane? I understand that the Al Mars are worth some money these days.....no accounting for taste:D

probably my chris reeve green beret, its like a railroad spike
I haven't handled one of those, but to think that SF turned down Bill Moran back in the day. By the way.....General Yarborough had a big Moran. It was submitted for testing, but according to Bill, the testers were afraid to abuse the general's personal knife:D I want to eventually get some of my W2 blades in the hands of some of the SpecOps guys in Tampa. I have read that most of the Yarboroughs end up either in a display case or the sock drawer because they are given out to those who complete the Q course and nobody weants to mess them up. I know that a fair number of the SpecOp guys around here carry Charlie Ochs' fixed blade knives.

As a Spyderco freak I'll skip the tales of failed Gerbers, Bokers, and chinese gas station knives. I'll get right to the one and only Spydie that failed to perform up to the "hype" in my experience. I gave two SS Delicas away as Christmas gifts a couple of years ago. They were given to co-workers so I get to see how they perform on a day-to-day basis. One of them holds a decent edge but the blade has rusting issues. Surface rust comes up every two days or so. The owner of this knife has to constantly keep it wiped down (which he does). The rusting issue surprised me and still does. I've never had this problem with Spyderco's AUS6 and really have no idea what's going on. The other knife is also a mystery. No rust issues whatsoever but this knife won't hold an edge at all. We're talking nada. No edge holding capability whatsoever. The original factory edge disappeared minutes after the knife was first used and has never returned. I've done everything. Back beveled with the diamond rods, sharpened in accordance with the Sharpmaker videotape. Etc, etc. The blade is literally worn away with hundreds of sharpenings and is almost a half-inch shorter than original as a result. Pure junk. These two knives are the only two examples of me ever feeling like I didn't get my money's worth from Spyderco. :(

My least favorite brandname knife is the gerber paraframe. I liked some of the Gerbers i got because they were cheap and realatively sharp. My scout troop swears by gerber and Buck, they dont recognize the high quality brands like cold steel, bench made(dont own any), Kershaw(waiting for a blur) and spyder co(still none), but when i showed them my CS Scimitar and Recon 1 they were either scared or they loved them and wanted to know where to get them. All i use the Paraframe for is lending to people. when i have a cutting job to do i just use my CS scimitar or Recon 1 or my boker magnum.

The KISS is truly a piece of $#!&. I was out at Philmont (a Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico) on the trail and two my the members of expedition had bought them at a shop in town before hitting the trail. One's lock collapsed on day two of ten in the trek, and the other's blade was pretty much blunt and had about a quarter inch of blade play halfway through the trip---the whole camp ended up using my Spyderco Military and Chinook. Anyways---the least favorite knife that I own is the Cold Steel Medium Voyager. Despite the fact I'm fifteen, the knife is too small for my hands and the thumb studs are really unusable.
