What are the least popular Busses?

perhaps War Boar.

I freakin love this knife. If I could find one for sale and get it into the country I'd have a collection of them. They just don't seem very practical :o

Chris.

Man Dave i think this one's Dead Sexy. It's got self defense written all over it.

I can show you an actual photo of the single least popular knife Busse ever made....at least that's what I believe based on attempts to trade it.

The SAR5 doesn't seem all that popular.

Yet you don't see too many out there. I had to look high and low for another one.

I think 10 years from now, people will be clammoring for old SAR5's. I had no trouble ever selling any of my extras and was very happy to find a user to do some much-needed handle-grinding on.

The SOW variant of the SFNO. Even before the SFNO came back in the last two years, you could hardly sell a SOW, except maybe below the original price.

I think it's funny to see the BATAC and SJTAC listed since I see many folks have them as users. They seem to be like Budweiser, a favorite second choice. The bag knife if you will. The TAC is one of my favorite handle configurations personally and I can't stand the E's or old skool straights. I'm a minority in that I'm sure.

Shiva Rex had me goin' "Whattheheck?".
Same with the Scotch Dispenser.
PBS was ugly to me until I started hunting again.
Nuclear Seahorse takes the cake for ugly though.

My tastes certainly couldn't count towards a common concensus. I hate wood handles and shiny (pristine) blades.:o

A lot of interesting opinions here in this thread. Thanks for all the great answers so far.

Ducci, I saw your response early on and thought exactly the same thing before I started this thread. In fact, that thought was the motivation to start this thread. Too funny!

Interesting thread .... for me of those I have bought and moved on because they did'nt feel right .... the BATAC LE had too much weight in the handle and the balance was off for me .... the CG model I never had but could be a wholly different kettle of fish ....

Then unusually perhaps .... the FFBM .... a favourite of many but to me the balance and feel felt very clumsy and blade heavy .... sort of like a full on pry bar as opposed to a knife .... sold it before I used it .... however I really like the FBM LE with a thinner stock and flat grind .... different knife altogether ....

There are some I would'nt buy .... a SAR 5 and any of the Tanto's just on looks and practicality .... any of the really thick smaller blades because they just seem less effective than their thinner cousins for what I would use a small knife for ....

The Team Gemini because I prefer a blade without the upper talon hole ....

Knives like the Nark or the SAR4 where you have a handle bigger and heavier than the blade .... for some of these knives I find the balance wrong .... but take the SAR4 and grind the handle back and give it a choil and the knife looks perfect to me .... and I bet it handles perfect too ...

The culti's and gamewardens etc .... I prefer a knife with a full grip and matching blade length .... they have symmetry for me .... so blades where the handle eclipses the blade length are not my personal choice .... I go as low as 4 inches on the handle and 4 on the blade and find I can do anything with knives in this category up to 5 inch handles and 5 inch blades .... smaller than this and I tend to see the merit of carrying a folder ....

Then there are the AK's and Ruck's which are too large to fit inside a Bergan .... not much use for me .... and I don't have need of a sword ....

All of this is just personal preference though .... but if giving reasons as to why certain blades are not popular with "me" .... then this is bound to be the case ....

I totally forgot about the nark. Very few to no vocal proponents. That thing... It was way, way WAY too overbuilt. That edge was brutally thick. As bad or worse then the public defender.

I guess I am one of those few vocal proponents. The NARK was one of my very first purchases and remains a strong candidate for favorite Busse. It is certainly my favorite mid-sized one. The Special Presentation NARKs sold by Skunk are made from 0.15" thick INFI and are completely different from the regular versions. There is nothing thick about them.

Left to right: SP NARK, BATAC, SJTAC

As for the SAR5 be nice I love it for hunting deer.I never liked the SAR4 it was all handle but it doesnt mean it was a bad knife, its just i didnt like it ,their are no bad Busse's just different oppions

I had always wanted to handle the presentation NARK, but never had the money to buy it just to try it. The thing that worried me about it was the low height of the saber grind. The normal NARK suffered from two problems - low sabler and a thick edge. Even if your thin a knife down to .150, those two things can still be a problem. I always wanted to see what the actual edge was like on the Presentation version.

I think theres a difference in what people are using as criteria for this thread
-Most vocal detractors
-Least visible in the public eye
-Least public proponents

I think when you add all of those up, the pt5, war boar and the shiva rex probably take the cake, because they qualify for all three. I haven't really heard any good remarks on the shiva rex, I've only ever really heard "it's a tiny little tanto with serrations and a choil o_o", and pretty much the same thing for the the war boar and pt5.

The scotch dispensor may not have much facetime on the forums or in the exchange, but there are those who like it as a flat neck knife, and lots of people love the sjtac, batac and sar5, even if there are also a lot who don't like them.

For me the SAR5 seemed dangerous. The handle is literally ramped towards the unprotected blade. Accident waiting to happen.

The only Busse I own that I don't really like is my fat GW, I just can't find a good use for it that one of my other Busse's can't do better. It also seems that they move really slow when they are listed on the exchange. That's the only thing that has stopped me from putting mine up for sale.

I find it funny that the ADs have been mentioned several times. I remember when they first came out I couldn't snag one for nothing. I still like them but now that I am trying to sell or trade one that I never use I can't seem to get rid of it. Oh well. I can empathize with you Randucci.

The two that I never cared (and I actually owned) for was the SAR5 and the Sarsquatch. I jumped through some serious hoops to snag one of each. I sold the 5 the day after it arrived and unloaded the other within a month or two after using it a couple of times.

Yeah, why all the AD hate??? Esp. those old-school satin/snake ones. I love mine. (Altho I should send it in - it's not really sharp and this particular one is very special to me so I won't get the grinds changed on my own.)
