What are the worst quality knives you had priviledge to experience?

During the 90s AUS 8 was considered a good stainless steel, comparable to ATS 34, 440C, and CM 154. It was the steel of choice for much of the original AL Mar knives (many of the larger knives were AUS 6), and other Japanese makers. I don’t have a problem with it, it is a reasonably good steel.

People say that even 440 is more than decent...

But majority of crappy knife makers use 440 so it got a bad name because of it...

Omg.my buddy bought a grylls folder like 7 years ago. It was so flimsy and wobbly with huge play, terrible craftsmanship and just all around garbage. ... The fact that bear promotes a cheap, chinese folder like THAT as survival gear is absolutely disgusting to me. ...

I've seen some real omega-level pieces of junk stamped with gun company logos. Years ago, I got a Winchester folding knife as a gift. I thought "decent guns, one of the nicest field coats I've ever owned, this should be nice." Nope. The action was so tight that I could barely open it. I don't recall being able to disassemble it. The edge needed sharpening right out of the box and dulled in a hurry after that.

Winchester and S&W mainly. I actually had S&W knife, real POS that got bent when I sat on it, and I'm around 75kg only. It was hell to sharpen and wouldn't hold an edge for more than few cuts... it was also impossible to get shaving sharp.

That being said, what's up with Camillus? Reviews of their machetes are just in the league of their own... loads of pics of broken machetes LOL

I laughed my butt off. It became a running gag after that.

Putting the "Survival" marketing aside behind the Bear Grylls line. I've got the medium sized/pocket clip version Scout lockback and I don't have bad feedback about it. I like and collect a lot of FRN lockbacks from the Coleman/Western Cutlery "Might Lites", Imperial's Apex Series, Gerber LST Magnums and Gator Series, to the old Bucklite 442's. The Gerber/Grylls Scout Lockback was a nice design for $20 and in many ways. Your buddy needs to learn to use a torx screwdriver to eliminate play(counterfeit maybe?)...but mine had zero play.

The Buck Bantam is my worst quality folder. USA made but heavily hollowed out scales giving a ton of flex in the hand. The Scout isn't hollowed out at all and feels more solid in comparison. Really short lockback design in the Bantam where a hammer fisted cut motion begins to lift the lockback lever under tension. The Bantam is one you always wanted to make sure your thumb was bearing down on the lockback lever for that safety risk.

He bought it from Wal-Mart. He did try tightening it up. Maybe he got a defective piece.
This is a guy who carries around 7 dollar mtechs and crap like that, so he wasn't too worried about it

There really isn’t any such steel with just the designation 440. When you see that, it’s whatever they could get the cheapest. ..................There is 440A, 440B & 440C which can all be good usable Cutlery Steels When HTed properly. I use 440C with a RC of 60 for a few of my culinary designs. Excellent Steel.. If it isn’t HTed properly for the given Steel . It Doesn’t matter what the Steel is , it won’t hold an edge.

I wonder if anyone actually uses knives like "Mutilator" for EDC tho... and I wonder if those people ever end up reading something like this forum...

Has anyone ever had united cutlery knives? Pretty junk.Ive bought a few that looked super cool but they go dull cutting paper.I bought a couple rambo knives from this company you certainly cant do with them what rambo did.

Even with the “Rambo” made by Jimmy Lile, First Blood, you most likely can’t do what was done in the Movie(s).. It’s a movie!

That would evolved making more than one small cut!:D
Multiple reviews say that serations of the blade will chip, break off or bend on first use LOL. And multiple youtubers also reviewed the knife and stated it's POS :D
Yet Bear Grylls cuts down trees and builds shelters with his knife...
He either has something else or his camera crew is carrying 50 disposable knives for each episode :D

Bryan from Survival on Purpose gave a hands-on review on the Gerber/Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival knife and threw some pretty controversial thoughts against the junk reference by others...

As far as serrations go the finer the points...the easier they can break. Baton with serrations and you'll damage them pretty quick. Just as certain serration designs are made for sawing and not pull-cuts and vice versa.
