So a "Gearhead" is someone who is totally into cars and is very knowledgeable about how to modify and fix them. A Gymrat is someone who works out a lot. You get the idea. When I run into someone with a nice piece on him, do I say "Hey. Are you a fellow ...?" What are we knife enthusiasts refereed to as? Knife Knuts?
 
Knife Knut works.

If you like to sharpen things flat with the primary bevel (or just really thin), that makes you a darksider.
There is no going back.

I'm also a steel junkie.


Please note that the term to avoid is "collector". That inspires relatives to buy boxes of dozens of knives for only $20!
 
I am a knife enthusiast. You aren't really a knife nut in my mind until you've had the chance to use and own a variety of blades from various manufacturers. This variety allows you to hone in on exactly what your likes are. One or two knives do not the knife Knut make.
 
I've heard knife nut, steel junkie, steel snob, sharpening freak, and knifesturbator.

edit: If i was talking to someone in person, and they where like "wow how did you know what knife that is?" i would not tell them i am a "knife knut"

When one of my wife's co-workers meet me I usually hear, "Oh, you're the knife guy." I say yes and nod my head politely. So I guess I'm a Knife Guy.
 
To my non knife friends I'm the Guy with the scary sharp knives....or the scapegoat for when they cut themselves handling them

I would say I qualify. I have spent about $2000 in the past year alone and ignored peril of the woman's scorn.
"knifesturbator"? Ouch.
 
"Collector" works for me. It's a simply-said and easy to understand way to justify the number of bladed items in the house. :)
