Lol, it refers to the compulsive flicking of knives characteristic of most knife enthusiasts. Not nearly as painful as it sounds...

"Knifesturbator" is my favorite thus far... I've been stereotypically called a "conservative nutjob" when a client of mine saw that I was carrying two knives. Don't think that's what we'd want to call ourselves, and I'm sure there are some liberals that carry blades.

I just say knife collector because that makes the most sense to people. I don't really like the connotation of "knife nut" (or similarly "gun nut"). When I hear that I think of a hick in overalls shooting squirrels on his porch with a 357.

Knife enthusiast is fine too, but it will probably require more explaining, so I like to stick with knife collector.
