What are you watching & why? (splain)

Not a Willow fan? Elora Danan!
Can't say that I am as I don't know who it is. Elora is a good character on the show...tell you the truth, I like all the kids...they crack me up, make me laugh and sometimes want to shed a tear.

They remind me of some of the Native American tribal police I used to play basketball with daily at our academy in Marana, AZ back in the day. Those guys would have me rolling after our daily pickup games...and they were the first ones up every morning to raise and salute the flag.

The show does a great job of showing how everything different is really the same in its essence...and I think everyone can find something to relate to. I know a lot of it reminds me of my own youth, despite not having grown up in rural OK.

If you have the chance, absolutely watch Frozen Planet II. Have watched 4 episodes so far, and it's just incredible. 2 episodes have featured insane killer whale hunting techniques (it's f'ing scary how smart they are), and I already mentioned the golden eagles hunting mountain goats (also scary smart).

Going back to "Reservation Dogs" for a moment to say that the second half of the second season really seemed as if the writing was done by someone else and that it didn't live up to the excellence of the earlier episodes. So, I have to qualify my earlier enthusiasm.

What will be in, or if I'll even watch, a 3rd season is unknown.

Just binged on "The Old Man" with Jeff Bridges. A bit slow here and there, but punctuated by some great and bloody fight scenes. Wheels turn within wheels as a tale of espionage and betrayal unwinds. Looks as if there will be another season in the offing.

I really liked that series. Hope there's a 2nd season.

Jeff Bridges & the show itself just won the Best Actor & Best TV Show "Movies for Grownups" Awards from the AARP.

We watched The Menu (2022) this evening. What a trippy ride. Went into it with zero expectations. It just got more and more bizarre. I had no idea where it was going. The plot may have been a little weak but it was FUN. We both enjoyed it. Ralph Fiennes, Nicholas Hoult, and Anya Taylor-Joy star.

Just received "The Menu" and "The Fablemans" on DVD from Netflix but i Haven't watched them yet. Will report back later when I have a chance to do that.

Watched a couple movies at my Movie Night last week that weren't on my radar at all.

First one was Whiplash. This movie is insane, I have never seen J. K. Simmons play such an unrelenting asshole - it's incredible.

Second movie was Fall. Not as good as the first one we watched but if you aren't scared of heights and can have fun pointing out all the boneheaded choices these girls make, then you might find it alright.

Did you ever watch the series "Oz" on HBO? (Prison show.) Simmons played Vern Schillinger a white supremacist, prison gang shot caller.

Great show and worth watching. Not for the faint of heart.

Just watched "The Fablemans" on DVD and I liked it.

It's a heart felt story and biopic about Spielberg's early life, what inpsired him to become a director and some life lessons & personal difficulties he encountered along the way.

It's well worth watching IMO.

I've seen 6 of the 10 Best Picture nominees (including The Fablemans) for the Oscars this year and, among those, it is certainly deserving of the nomination and I would not be surprised or object if it wins the award for Best Picture this year.

I'm not so sure about Judd Hirsh's nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film. Not because it was bad but because it was so short.

I think the winner of that award be either Brendan Gleeson (Banshees of Inisherin) or Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All At Once), whose performances were both much longer and central to the movies they acted in, which are also nominated for Best Picture, despite that fact I thought those movies were really odd and really didn't like them.
