What are you watching & why? (splain)

Bakula was offered the opportunity to reprise his role in the show but passed and wished the new cast luck.

I think that was good of him and the right thing to do. After 5 seasons previously ending 20 yrs ago, the new show needed a fresh start w/ new faces.

So, he probably won't be doing a cameo (as Sam) this season which has alredy been shot but, if the show continues, he still could do so later. Unfortunately, any cameo will have to be sans Dean Stockwell (as Al) who passed away in 2021.

PS: I've watched all 12 (not just 2; typo) of the episodes of the new series and there are reportedly 6 episodes to go (total 18).

Would be cool if they found him at the end of the run to bring some closure to the original.

Tried to watch "The Pale Blue Eye" on Netflix but after 45 minutes or so I wasn't engaged and said adios!

Watched a few episodes of "Reservation Dogs" on hulu. Not bad but not something I'd watch in large bites.

That's a bummer, I found it to be a fine and well crafted movie and it gets better every time I watch it. That said, I can relate - I've had more than a few movies where I walked away from mid stride.

Movie night with buddies last night and I got to pick the films. If you couldn't tell yet, I'm a big Western fan so I selected a couple for viewing last night.

I started with a relatively new one, Murder at Yellowstone City. It was filmed in Montana and features Gabriel Byrne, Thomas Jane, and Richard Dreyfuss. It is a bit of a murder mystery/western mashup and was a bit long and meandering but it was beautifully shot, well acted, and had some campy throwbacks to some of the old school westerns. However, I think if one doesn't have the patience for western dramas, you will get bored very quickly with this film.

Watched The Proposition again as well. This is a superb movie with Guy Pearce, Danny Huston, and John Hurt. Dark, brutal, gritty, and set in the Australian Outback. There are no triumphant moments in this film but it's well crafted and deep - fully recommended.

Watched M3gan while I worked yesterday. Not bad. Kind of an Ex Machina/Chucky mashup. It won’t be going in my list of classics but it was fun. I thought they did a great job making it look like creepy animatronics, and the voice-acting was impressive.

Watched Greenland a few weeks ago. Action/natural disaster/human nature film. I honestly spaced most of it. Those kind of films tend to not hold my attention very well anyway. I’m sure it made sense on a storyboard but I find all the running around, splitting-up, poor choices, and emotional setbacks kind of exhausting. Cool visuals.

I didn't like the very few episodes of "Yellowstone" we sat through a couple years back...and couldn't take the prequel with Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.

So I don't dare tainting my appreciation for Helen Mirren.

(She was fantastic in the British police drama "Prime Suspect"...one of the best cop shows ever, imho.)

I'm not much of a Yellowstone fan either. But so far this is much better.

Historical inaccuracies aside, I didn't mind 1883.

I wanted to strangle the gal whose voice was constantly jabbering away, narrating the tale. And it was so friggin' inaccurate on way too many levels to bother recounting. I just couldn't get past the revisionist b.s.

Thanks. Now I know I'll never watch it.

Don't give up so fast! There's actually another motormouth in the new series. She's also very cute! An American actress who plays a Brit with quite a posh accents. There are actually 2 eye candies for the fellas in the series apart from Helen Mirren if she, in past or present, happens to be one's type 🤣
