What are you watching & why? (splain)

So, after toker toker made me aware that they've been releasing a bunch of old remastered Hong Kong action movies in 1080p and 4k, I wound up finding a bunch of HK movies I hadn't seen in decades.

Up tonight is the 1986 movie Millionaires Express, starring Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, Cynthia Rothrock and a host of other actors from the era.

Haven't seen this in a long time, but I recall some pretty sweet fights, and THIS one stunt

That building jump was insane. Loved the fights in Millionaire's Express, especially Yuen Biao vs. Sammo Hung. It's hilarious.

Movie suggestion of the day: "Chopper" starring Eric Bana.

One of Andrew Dominik's earlier films, and he right up there with PT Anderson as one of the all time greats ;)

Waited 7 years for this moment. Just an incredible movie. Stop motion animation is such a rarity in today's CG world.

I watch Dry Bar Comedy on Youtube now and then for a good laugh ~ they have a cleaner demeanor than most comedy these days, and yet still a barrel of laughs ~ think most of the skits are done in Provo Utah ~ or possibly all of them ~ Chris Rock, will never forget the first time seeing him act, he did this skit in ~ I'm gonna get you Sucka ~ How much for one Rib ~ it was pretty funny back then ~
You got change for a hundrit?

watched Chris Rock's netflix thing last night. He literally dropped the mike

Lol, yep, almost threw it down. I had to watch it in 2 sittings, to me it was as if he was trying too hard, his delivery seemed very forceful in a strange way. What stood out to me also was him ripping on other celebs and sports figures for giving their views on societal issues and how they need to just shut up and play a game, yet he delivered over an hour and every single “joke” of his societal and political views. Meh.

He definitely got his digs against Will Smith though! This was the main reason I watched it, he hasn’t said a word about it prior so I knew it was coming.

If anyone wants to watch a franchise movie that really shits the bed, check out Jurassic World - Dominion. My gosh what a POS.

it was definitely more of a throw than a drop!

It was cool to watch him get that shit about the Smiths out of his system in real time- had absolutely nothing to do with me yet it felt cathartic. Seeing justice/revenge served up like that was pretty amazing.

counterpoint; I think there's a strong argument that commenting on societal issues is in the job description of being a comedian. I'd even go far as to say that comedians are intrinsically experts on societal/cultural issues. If they aren't addressing those things they're not courageous enough to make any impact. That said, Steven Wright is one of my favourites lol

when he was talking about 'attention addiction', I think he was totally on point. Real talk!

For sure, he really hit this nail clean on the head and drove it right through the board! I agree with your counterpoint as well Lorien, I guess I was hoping that the whole show wasn’t strictly based in the societal/political arena but he obviously had a lot to unload and I do appreciate that he expressed a lot of views of what’s happened and happening by looking across both sides of the aisle.

Just watched "Good Will Hunting" (1997) for the 1st time in awhile.

Love this movie particularly for Robin Williams' sensitive portrayal of the therapist and because of Matt Damon's breakthru performance as the insecure & confused math "genius." Neither of them get enough credit for their acting skills.

Also loved Williams in "Dead Poets Society" and Damon in "The Martian" and in the Bourne series.
