What are you watching & why? (splain)

The season 2 opener of The Last of Us underwhelmed me. I don't want to spoil it for those who have not watch but Ellie (Bella Ramsey's character) overacting out in her rebellious teenage years at the expense of defanging Joel (Pedro Pascal's character) was a disappointing start for me. The one promising note being how the fungi-zombies seems to be evolving, so maybe some cool special effects in this season?

Black Mirror is back for S7. I went on record saying that S6 was a disappointment after a longer hiatus for the series and seems that S7 is following in the same direction but then again the over all novelty of a dystopian future at the expense of this evil AI concept wears out after a while, specially since real life is catching up with some science fiction. The episode named Eulogy with Paul Giamatti (AKA Pig Vomit) in it was very interesting but then again, I think that Giamatti is a great actor despite that voice!

As a Public Service Announcement, if you haven't already done so, do not watch "The Gorge" on Apple+.

You've been warned.
IDK, I thought it was OK. Great? No. Hear me out though. Was it a little odd? Yes. Predictable? Yes, I had it figured out rather quickly, and spoiled it for my wife (sorry babe).

Different? Yes. Which is a lot more than I can say for a lot of the other crap coming out these days. Was I mildly entertained for a couple hours? Yes.

🤷🏻‍♂️

I'll wait for ~4-6 weeks before starting on either of these. It irritates the hell out of me how streaming has gone the way of cable/TV, and most shows only release an episode per week. :poop: Back to the same crap as before. I won't play that BS game, so I wait until I can watch a handful of episodes at one time instead of being strung along.

Well OK, the 2nd episode of The Last of Us season 2 was just EPIC! I trashed the S2 opener in my post above because it was just very sloooow and uninspiring plus I still don't like the excessive cussing by potty mouthed Ellie, but the fight scenes in this episode was almost up there with the best of the battle scenes in the GoT, not quite the Battle of the Bastards intense but almost! As a clueless boomer, I really didn't know that this series is based on some popular game, LOL! I don't wish to give anything away but I was quite surprised and shocked at what just transpired at the end of this episode.

I’m not doing it.

As a younger generation person who does play games, the first one is still regarded by many (including myself) as one of the best games ever made.
I did watch the first season but I won’t watch the second. Neil Druckman just can’t help himself.

I’m glad someone is enjoying it though!

Pig vomit put Paul on the map!

Just started Season 3 of Wheel of Time. Tried the books years ago and nope. Forgot how many I read, but too long, too boring, too much political BS. Show has held my attention better, but at times it feels like they gloss over things, like they assume everyone watching has read (and remembers) the books and can just fill in the gaps.

watching it now was an interesting snapshot into a period of time that was fraught with so much negativity, and the reminder of all that really helps inform my views on the present. That the series straddled pre 9/11 and the War on Terror is one of the most interesting aspects of the show, to me. The whole organized crime flourishing during a time when the government committed all its resources to jihadist terrorism really says a lot about where things are at today

Well, that's not exactly accurate. In reality, LCN, (the traditional mob), was severely weakened during the 80's and 90's, and despite their still being around, as crime always will be, they are not and were not in their heyday post 9/11. Sure the Gambinos, Colombos, and all the goombahs I worked on in NYC are still around, but they aren't what they once were.

Many cases were made on them around the country, but in large part, the "war on drugs", such as it is and was, became a much bigger deal, with the Colombian cartels followed by the Mexican cartels, and various other posses deriving from a number of nationalities scattered hither and yon.

I know because I worked with the Joint Terrorist Task force in NYC and Miami, and also in the Florida Joint Task Group, HIDTA and OCDETF in South Florida.

All of the resources were not committed to jihadist terrorism...although a significant amount was. And even our groups which were tasked with O.C. as well as anti-terrorism cases, had to divide up the man hours based upon what was most significant at any given point in time.

(I also worked with your own RCMP, QPP and other Canadian LE both here in the states as well as up north...much of it related to organized crime (via outlaw motorcycle gangs as well as via the cartels).
