Do you think a simplified 0999 would work for a production knife? Like in a 350-400$ range. Like the 0392/0393 (although the 0393 needs more work to make than the 0392)
Doubtful, for several reasons.
1. It would dilute the Triple number brand. The 0777 was an exception because another company was ripping off the design. But if they start making production versions of the "Halo pieces" they won't feel as special to the public at large. From a market/branding standpoint, that's a bad thing (although it won't make sense to enthusiasts at large).
2. The design isn't really practical, it's strictly a demonstration of machining/design capabilities. They would have to take away everything that made the 0999 special, to get to a version that people wouldn't be upset about for practical use.
3. There is no outcry for a production version of this knife. Along with another company continuing to produce the 0777 design years after it was stolen, everyone and their mom wanted another version of the 0777. Hence the 0770, Natrix and Bareknuckle knives came about.
The 0393 is a production version of a factory custom, this is viewed different than the limited editions (Triple Numbers) from a marketing and branding standpoint. I think we will continue to see production versions of the factory custom builds as customer feedback dictates. The 0393 was in response to a HUGE outcry for a production version of the 0392.
As always, just my opinion.
