What Becker would you make?

They use soft metal. I thought about it but then seen some review in which the Tops blades bent badly while batoning through wood. Tops was the only blade they was unable to finish the test and was the only blade bent/destroyed. If Mr. Becker made that knife and used 1095 CV with their special heat treat...I'd own that one too.

Not to get up in your grill, and I do love the BK&T line and own more than a few, but all knives can break, even high quality tools. Witness some of the BK9's that have broken, some of them made by Ka-Bar. The BOB is also made from 1095 high carbon steel, and while I don't know their heat treat method, they stand behind their tools with a lifetime warranty; TOPS, like Ka-Bar, also has their tools in the field all over the world being used by servicemen and women and first responders. In my experience, it's a great knife, and for users with bigger hands it's a viable alternative to the 16, which is really what DOC CANADA was wishing for. And, I've batoned through a bit of twisty sugar maple with no damage, not even on the piece that I hit buried laundry line hardware in.....but I didn't get a video. I did have to sharpen out a little nick, though.

I'd say you got up in his grill. ;) Good post!!!

Doc, take a look at the TOPS B.O.B. Very much like a BK-16 saber with more handle. Kinda pricey new, and not a Becker, but a very nice knife otherwise. Side by each:
This is what I ended up doing as well. The tweener handles are just too small for my mitts.

Hey granitestateofmind, thanks for the response. Actually I'm good for blades in that length range with Barkies, ESEEs, a Bryan Breeden, Schrade, Rodent Solution (Swamp Rat) etc. What I would like is a smaller Becker with an adequate length handle in case I get the urge to do another outing report which I would prefer to post in the Becker forum. I can use the 4 for small tasks but sometimes it's a problem with soccer moms in my favourite area to play. I'm afraid I have no love for the 2.

My hands aren't overly large but I find the smaller Beckers just too short. If they had made the Eskabar with the Izula II handle it might have been ok for me (I love my Izzy II, but the Izzy 1 is just too short).

Anyway, while I have the floor I would like to wish Happy Holidays to all my Becker brethren and sistern (???) - well you know what I mean.

Doc

I'd like to see a Becker"ed" Marbles Dall DeWeese or a Kephart style. I know the 16 is close to that but my 0.02.

Ok so a little up date on this project. I pretty much made a tweener. I took a 16 handle and a 14 blade. Added an inch to the blade length ,it 3/8 inch thick 1095. FFl grind. It is being heat treated. When I get it back for hand sanding I will post some pics. I mod'ed the handle so its not exact. But I think it fits my mitts better. More to come. Promise

That's what I would have done. looking forward to seeing the finished blade!

While fixing lunch today, I had an epiphany. Since Ethan's a chef, and he already has a line of kitchen knives, why not A Becker Pizza Cutter. Or better yet, a small version with the roller cutting wheel and a commercial "rocker" version with dual tweener handles.

A quick rendering, not to scale. :D

Yeah, I know, they look poorly, but all I have is Paint, not one of those fancy rendering programs that Dubz uses.

Pro, you and I and the other guys who want this, need to find one of our lovely custom makers and resident Beckerheads, and see what pricing they would give for a bulk buy ..lol

This, we can do.

Gimme one with the fullsize handle and a good sized cutting wheel for them deep-dish and stuffed pizzas.

3/8 inch thick? That's all? Come on, don't be a lightweight. If it's not a full inch thick it'll snap for sure!
