What BIG Blade Tac Folders Do You Like?

5 inch CS Gunsite. If you really need to reach out and "touch" somebody. I only carry it when I think it could come in handy, and I don't use it for utility. It's got a sole purpose and I keep it sharp if that need should ever arise. My big all-purpose would be my Kershaw g-10 Tyrade, an absolute brute of a knife with a keen edge that will pop arm hairs. Love that cpmd2.

As far as a big folder, I carry the Pohl Force Alpha Two. It is definitely a big knife. I love it, although it can be a bit big for smaller detail projects, most of the fault with that lies with me and my newness to a big folder though. Even so, I am using it more, and getting used to it. Love the blade thickness on this beast.

Hey all,

I carry a Spyderco Endura every day and have wanted to get something else for a change. I like the larger blade carry knives so I went looking on the web to see what was out there. The first I came upon that I liked was the SOG Spec Elite II. It has a blade that is 5 inches. Even though it looked good in pictures and video, it might be just a tad too big. What do you all think? I seen some others from Cold Steel, Gerber, Benchmade and a few others that I can't recall right now. I am talking about blades that are 4 to 5 inches in length.

What EDC BIG Blade knives are out there that you really like and maybe carry yourself? Do you think that knives with blades that big are too unwieldy and pretty much useless unless defending your life with it?

Also I know there are LOTS of custom makers that put out some absolutely beautiful blades, but most of us can't afford $300 for a knife. Of course if you have pics of customs, please post them cause we all love pics, but try and keep your recommendations to production knives.

Thank you for your time.

I have the SOG Pentagon Elite II, which is the same handle as the sPec Elite II but a dagger shaped blade. It is huge, though it carries well. It is too big for daily carry, for me.

I EDC a ZT 0301. I have a Cold Steel Rajah 2 (6" blade, LONG handle), but I only carry that monster of a folder when I can't carry a pistol.

+1 on that Pohl - I dig mine. It is surprisingly versatile if you choke up and use the thumb ramp on the top of the blade.

Big Folders! One of my favourite topics! I guess knife snobs ,who like big folders, must gnash their teeth in frustration, because it seems like virtually all the truly large production folders in existence, are made by companies that these dilettantes hold in contempt.
My favourite big folders are the CS large and X-large Espadas, the large Rajah, the 6" Ti-lites, the Spartan, the Vaquero Grande, and [although they're not released yet] the new 5.5" Voyageurs. I also really like Sog's 5" Pentagon-elite and Spec-elite folders.
I guess I should mention Benchmade's rather timourous foray into large folders; the 4.25" Rukus [since discontinued] which is my only BM knife, and the 4.25" Onslaught, which I don't think can hold a candle to the Rukus when it come to design.
Oh yeah , there's big bad Ernie Emerson,s Super CQC 8 folder which measures in at about 4.3 inches.[ wow Ernie! you're such a risk taker!]
Maybe the only production folders which are truly large, and which knife snobs might feel comfortable with, are Darryl Ralph's 5" folders. I really like his knives but at $450.00 and over, they just cost more than I want to pay. Besides, when you can get a CS 6" Rajah II for about $100 dollars, why would you feel the need. Even my now discontinued Rajah 1, only cost me about $225.

ZT 0200. that is the heaviest knife i have ever held. love that knife. if you get the blem, then you will not mind using it....

The only 4" blade I carry is a....

I know I shouldn't let something drive me this crazy but I'm using this to make a correction from a different post!
I said I took this knife in an unusual place that I want mention again but it wasn't this knife it was my old 2nd generation Endura! There I feel better and that's what you get for me getting old in my thinking(and being a little, OK a lot crazy)!!

Spyderco Aluminum Police Model. Light, long, strong, and takes up minimal pocket real estate. :D
