What Brand Comes To Mind When You Think Of Survival/Tactical/Outdoor Knives?

I normally don't associate the terms "surival", "outdoor" and "tactical" with the same knives.

When I think of survival knives, I think of those horrible hollow handle Rambo knives that were sold in the 1980's.

When it comes to tactical, I generally think of companies like Cold Steel, Strider and Busse. Cool looking knives that with grinds that are far too thick to ever use outdoors.

When I think of outdoor knives, I usually think of companies like Marbles, BRKT and Grohmann.

gerber with the lmfII and the trident
buck with the 184 and 185
rosarms zlatoust with the baionet and the big dagger
kizlyar with the dv2 and the phoenix
kabar usmc and next generation fighter
randall
blackjack

When I think survival or tactical I think of three companies first usually. Camillus or Ontario come to mind when survival is mentioned. I guess thats from my having owned some of their products when I was a youth and the years of making the Pilots Survival Knife made to spec for the armed services by both companies. Whenever tactical is mentioned Kabar comes to mind first for me. Probably due to the fighting knife they have made for the military for many many years.

I don't think that Cold steel, strider, and busse have knives that have grinds that are too thick to use outdoors.

For me survival means rat cutlery:thumbup:

survival/outdoor:

RAT Cutlery
Becker Knife and Tool
KA-BAR
Victorinox
Spyderco
Buck

Tactical:
RAT Cutlery
Becker Knife and Tool
KA BAR
Spyderco
Benchmade
ZT

The company that first came to mind with all three is Cold Steel- and I must respectfully disagree with the too thick edges comment- all of mine are well ground with thinner edges.

Others are
RAT
BRK&T

and of course outdoors leads me to the many custom makers here on BF! (especially wilderness and survival forum)

Scrap Yard, Swamp Rat, Busse, Ranger, Becker, CRK. I don't have any RATs or Fallknivens so I can't comment on those.

Well, Survival and outdoors = RAT

Tactical = Spyderco is the first thing that comes to my mind, honestly. ZT is following that.
