What brands WON'T you own?

I'll take anything sharp for free. Brands I won't buy, though, are CRKT, Gerber, SOG, Smith and Wesson, (Not really a knife company but the stuff they do make is crap.) anything from the Benchmade HK line, or the Harley Davidson line. There are others, too, but those are the main ones.
Of course, if everyone on the forum started raving over a Gerber knife tomorrow, I wouldn't have a problem buying it.

I will not buy Spyderco with the exception of the Military other than that in my opinion all other Spydies are hideous :barf:.

There are a lot of brands out there where their knives just don't appeal to me. When it comes to folders I'm partial to spyderco and benchmades, and I'm a little less picky with fixed blades.... as long as it looks nice and it's good quality, I'll buy it regardless of the brand.

SRM, got nothing against people who like them and I have been tempted many times to purchase a 710 but whenever I am close to pulling the trigger I end up feeling guilty.

So now I just wont even bother, if a knife wont make me truly happy I wont get it even if its dirt cheap. ;)

Although I live within three miles of the factory and they are the company that sparked my interest in knife collecting, I will not buy another SOG knife. I love the history behind the SOG name and I have great admiration for the Spec-Ops military personnel that did what they did in Vietnam but I don't feel the SOG knife company meets the same quality, value and design standards that other companies such as Spyderco, Benchmade, ESEE and Kershaw set forth.

If more of their knives used VG-10 steel as well as G10, I'd be much more interested.

I won't even step into a room with a gerber knife in it ;)...

Ive heard the CRKT has a "good"... M-16 knife but for me CRKT dosn't do it..

oh, and S&W knives.. if you guys even count em....

I used to also feel that way about SOG.. until i got 1, i loved it.. but it malfunctioned... i sent it to SOG, they fixed it 100% and gave it a free sharpening... really good customer service, thats y i'd reccomend them!

i started buying from kershaw..then BM and spyderco...--all good

and now im buying Chris Reeve knives...

the addiction will soon make me broke ;)...

Sebenza 21 = amazing.. =D

I think most forget that BF is a very small percentage of knife users compared to what is really out there in the world.

MOST people are using Gas Station knives and or knives in the $25 range and have for decades.

Some of the brands that people say they won't own here on BF are some of the best selling knives around out there in the world.

+1 Good point, Ankerson. In the end, the knives that most consumers buy tend to dictate aesthetical trends, at least that's what I've been seeing.

I won't by stuff from unknown brands unless i've been able to find reviews on them from a few different sources, or have had a chance to examine what I'm buying.

not to say I won't buy rubbish (I've got a no-brand hollow handle "survival" knife to prove that) but I if I do, it's beacuse I meant to.

Strider, Mantis, dark ops and a few others are unlikely to get my money any time soon, simply because their designs don't appeal to me in the slightest.

the only other companies I will never buy from are companies like william henry. not because I don't like thier knives (they look excellent) or because I consider the company suspect in some way, but simply because they are too nice. I buy knives to use, and I'd never be able to bring myself to use something that good looking, for fear of ruining it's good looks.

Yeah I am sure most knives are bought at Big Box stores, flea markets and gas stations, also the big box stores websites.

I'm surprised to see you guys saying Strider. Any reasons?

I owned three so far and sold them. All of them developed vertical blade play did not lock-up tight. After inspection, I found that all of them had VERY little lockbar metal in contact with the blade (maybe just one spot). As this wore a little, the locks loosened.

I sent them all back for repair, but sold them off.

Yep, your right on. All my buddies carry knives but they area all Case XX, Buck's from wally world, gerbers and junk from the flea market they dont care to cut wire with. None of em' would ever know what a ZT, Chris Reeve or a strider was..
LOL, to most of them if you have a buck 110 your living big..
