What Buck are you carrying today?

Picture is worth a thousand words...
We like pictures!

SWMBO is out of town with her mobile phone! The pics I take with my flip phone look like a bowl of oatmeal hidden by a cloud of fog in the dark!

Here's an old pic of the same k-nife. You can't see most of the scratches on the blade, but you can see some on the front bolster.

Does anyone else like to reprofile the edge bevel on their 110 so that it's as thin as it can get? It's obvious on my photo!

most of the edge2000 knives come with very steep or thin primary edges. 15 or so degrees per side. Jeff's commented in the past on the actual angle I can't remember exactly but it's close to that maybe 16 degree or 17 degrees. less than 20 per side though.

I try to not go below 15 per side or 30 inclusive unless blade is a steel that can handle that thin an angle.

I usually go as thin as I can (I don't measure the angle). CPM154, S30V and S35VN have pretty good edge stability, so I haven't had any problems like I did when I tried the same with older 440C blades. The recent 420HC blades I have were already sharpened the way I like them!

If'n I wasn't feelin so lazy I'd go get an older one and one of the newer, WallyWorld, ones and photo the edges...maybe after my nap ;)
laugh is for the nap. wish I could take a nap sounds great, but I can't.

that would be awesome but might get lost in this thread being a carry thread. maybe we should start a new one so its easily found im thinking.

when ya wake up from the nap.. we'll see what ya think on the old vs. edge2000 new thread.😁

Measuring with my Gritomatic Goniometer My Oct BOTM 500, has an angle of 22º on one side of the blade and 17º on the other. (I'll fix that when it needs sharpening.)
My Aug BOTM 120 General has an angle of 17º per side.
My April BOTM 104 has angles of 14º per side.
My March BOTM 117 also has 14º per side.

Seems to be the norm, within a degree or two of 15º.
And I am carrying the Oct BOTM 500 today.

Where is that thread, Jesse?
there isn't one..but maybe one of us should make a new thread an old edge vs. edge 2000 thread, is kinda what I'm saying....here in the .....what are ya carrying Buck thread...... it will get lost for future lookers. I hate to see good info get buried and hard to find later is all......

looks like ya had a good long nap there, Sir....😁

O Old Biker you have a good start with that measuring gizmo...start that thread 👌

I'd like to see that and how you use it, I have several photos to add.

I'm sure that some others will add discussion to it.

Had the same Buck 110 in my hoodie pocket this morning when a new freezer got delivered. I used it to cut the plastic straps, but then the top of the shipping carton would not lift off as it was designed to do. At some point in shipping, a big hole got kicked near the bottom and prevent the top from coming free. I used the Buck 110 to slice down one corner of the carton top and then wrestled it off. Then I used it again to cut the carton top into manageable pieces for hauling to recycling. It's a very good slicer of corrugated paper board!
