What Buck are you carrying today?

We went for a brief outing today to a state fish and wildlife area to take advantage of the warm weather (50° and sunny, but back to 30° tomorrow). We had a nice time (saw a couple of bald eagles) but nearly had a disaster!
SO WHY IS THERE NO KNIFE IN THIS PHOTO? :(
After snapping this picture, I got the bright idea of posing my 501 Esquire (yes, Esquire -- '78 to '80 handle but a 2025 blade) in the branch of a dead plant near the shore of the lake. As soon as I let go it fell about three feet into the grass, mud, and snow. I mean, straight down and should have been an easy find. I looked and looked, grubbed all around, but no luck. My wife returned from her birdwatching walk and helped. she pulled out a big chunk of snow, but nothing doing. Then a lady and her daughter pulled up and asked if we needed help. My wife explained what we were doing and I said it looked hopeless. Anyway, they walked over and started looking, and about then my wife discovered the 501 at her feet at least two feet from where it fell! It must have hit, bounced, and was stuck under that chunk of snow that she pulled out.
I thanked the lady and her daughter profusely, told them if they had not stopped, I would have given up! At that point I was ready to clean up my wet, muddy hands and continue our drive.
SO THAT'S WHY THERE IS NO KNIFE IN THIS PHOTO. :) ;)

Edit: Oops, I had my Squires and Esquires mixed up. The 501 was originally an Esquire, later changed to Squire. I have updated the text above.

Wow.
Lanyards on knives are great in those circumstances.
Not that I do it myself.

After my "adventure" with my re-bladed Esquire yesterday, I decided to give some pocket time to my all-original Esquire today. The old 440C fat-behind-the-edge blade is plenty sharp, but just doesn't slice fruit as well as the new Edge 2000 blade.

After seeing Ace's story about his rebladed 501, I decided to go with my recently rebladed 503 that I haven't carried since it got back from Buck. I've been so enamoured with my Range Elite and Buck autos lately, it felt good to carry an old classic.
