What Buck Do You Have on Order? Or in the Mail?

I also placed a separate order for a 119 elk magnacut but nothing on that yet.
5 weeks on the 119, just got it in!

Not sure why I bought this, other than it was so cheap .. I mean $10 for any Buck is good, even a China Buck Flipper right? Picked up this 811 Trace Ops for $10. It is used, but it is a TSA confiscated knife and looks in excellent condition ...

I bought a gently used 4 dot fingergrooved 110 off the bay today. Fingers crossed it looks as good in person as it did in the pics. It will take the place of my original 110 that I lost years ago. It should be here Saturday, I’ll post a pic when I get it.

Here’s the 4 dot I’ve been waiting on. It’s in nice shape, couldn’t have been used much. The snap on the sheath is ridiculously hard to snap shut and release. Anyone experienced this before? Any tips to improve it?

I had a Tops knife with a difficult snap.
I took a pair of needle nosed leathermans and gently crimped around the outside edge of the larger snap.
And then oiled it a bit. It works better.

I'd suggest try snapping each of those snaps onto something else to confirm which part of the snap is the problem first. Mine was the larger outside one. It didn't want to snap onto anything.

Thanks for the tip. 👍

I have not had a chance to date it or anything
Jon, good find. Those are hard to date.
From 1973 to 1981 they were 440C steel, then from 1981 to 1992 425M but no marking to indicate what steel.
The knife remains looking the same(black phenolic), with the same tang stamp until 1986 when Buck added date codes.
The sheath , if original, helps because it looks to be the earlier one that used the single Buck on the snap. From L. Odin's book this snap was used 1973 -1981.
So, I think, yours is dated some time between 1973-1981.
Someone with more knowledge may be along and correct any mis-information I have put here.

I was high bidder on this barrel nut knife this evening. It was sold as a 116, the last of the 100 series barrel nut models. They were made from ground down 102 and 118 blades during this period, and when buying one these days you always wonder whether it was really a factory 116 or if someone ground a different model down to that shape sometime in the subsequent 60-some years. This one is in rough shape, but maybe it's the real deal?

This borrowed photo from Larry Oden's "Holding an Edge" shows the 116 barrel nut variations. It's remarkable that he was able to find all 4.

On its way to me: A 632 Mesa. Not found in any of the Buck Dealer catalogs, but the model number (0623GYSWM-B) indicates it was a Walmart Exclusive model. From my research, it seems to be a slight variation on the 622 Endeavor, but with a plain edged blade without serrations and a different color (Gray) Handle (The 622 handle was Black)

None of the Walmart models are "rare" but this "Before the Compadre" woodscraft knife will make a good field, working item,

Nice find! I think you’re going to love the Mesa! It’s almost identical to the 104 but with a slightly larger finger guard and a slightly different handle shape. The weak point is the sheath. It also came with a better sheath that looks more like a Ground Combat Knife sheath. But the Mesa fits a 104 sheath perfectly and you can buy one from Buck’s website for $30. Less if you’re a BCCI member.
