What Budget Knife Suprised You?

I think one other person mentioned the Svord Peasant Knife. I think it is a fantastic knife, so simple and strong. Most folks won't try it due to its unconventional design, but it is easy to operate and maintain, made of good steel and cuts well.

I'll second that, the Kershaw Emerson CQC-6K and 7K really surprised me. Both are very well executed budget blades.

Spyderco Dragonfly 2 feels like a much larger knife than it is and weighs next to nothing. The orange Dragonfly 2 Ranks in my top 5 all time favorite edc. At first I thought it was a bit expensive at $50, but after getting one I quickly learned what a great little knife it is..

The Kershaw Cryo has been one of my favorite knives since it was first introduced. I gave several of them away as gifts last Christmas and it was definitely a big hit. It was fun watching everyone sitting around flipping their knives all evening.

Kershaw CQC6 absoluty a great value at $32. Also the Kershaw Blur. I was able to get one for $40 shipped from knife coutnry USA. Plus the blur is made in America.

What Opinel would you recommend I get as a first try? I've eyeballed them but just like you I'm all about modern folders.

I typically see folks toting a #6, 7 or 8 as an edc knife... I went to a local bricks and mortar store to check them out in person and found the #8 to be perfect for me. I still love my #10 and #12 though. ;):D

Most of my knives, and all of the ones that I like / use on a regular basis fall in this category.

Mora Classic #1 $10 is my main fixed blade and has been for some time.

Kershaw Skyline $26 great little folding knife, horrible lock.

Victorinox Pioneer & Farmer $28 $33 (or just about any knife they make) fantastic folders that are far more useful and in some ways capable than other folders. Well made, good looking, better edge geometry than many modern folders.

Leatherman Rebar $33 mini supertool, need I say more?

Leatherman Squirt PS4 $21 tiny, surprisingly useful, fun

Tramontina machete $14 a well made machete for a steal of a deal

I used to have this 2.5" little folding Gerber on my keychain. I am NOT a Gerber fan, but that silly thing saw way more use than any of my other knives in its lifetime.

Oh I forgot about the leatherman micra that is a killer little multi tool and the scissors are incredable I always have it on me in my watch pocket

I was gifted a Case medium stockman this last Christmas. It runs around $40. It was my first traditional slip joint, and my first case knife. To be truthful I had heard a lot of bad mouthing about Case knives, especially in the modern tactical folder knife world, where I was coming from. But boy was I surprised by this little guy. It out performs knives much bigger, longer, and far more expensive. It has really made me question what I need in a knife. Anyway, definitely give it a shot if you have been at all curious about case knives or traditional slip joints in general.

LionSteel Opera I bought for my wife and made custom scales to fit. The fit and finish was really nice and the lock-up. Not sure if $100 is budget, but it was cheaper than most I've bought.

I agree with the Svord peasant knife and the CRKT M16-12ER. These are two fantastic folders for the price.

Mora Companion
Kabar Dozier Folding Hunter
Numerous SAKs, especially Compact, Alox Cadet

Ordered a mora companion off amazon just to see why everyone seems so high on them. Seems sturdy enough, but definitely looks like a knife that cost $15. Decent enough, but I'm not overly impressed.

I was pretty sure in what I was getting with the two Mora's and the RAT 1 and Utilitac but they definitely surpassed my expectations.
The one that really surprised me was the Timberwolf. Came very sharp and has stayed sharp. Very comfortable for my hand.
