I decided to play with the big boys this afternoon, specifically the CGFBM, NMFBM, and MOAB. I had some leftover 1x6 pressure treated decking that I wanted to do some chop chop on, because I knew that the wood is so consistent I would really be able to tell the differences in the chopping power of the knives. I started with the CGFBM and it did great. I have played around with that blade quite a bit in the woods and it feels at home in my hand. The next up was the NMFBM, which was a recent acquisition on the exchange. It performed amazingly! The chopping was definitely superior to the CGGFM, but they both performed great and were in the same league. Next up was the MOAB. Oh my Damn!!!!! I'm in love with this thing! The bite is deep and effortless (if you can call swinging about 3 pounds of INFI effortless), it just chews the wood up unlike any other knife I have every used. I probably chopped through the 1x6 decking 4-5 times each with the CGFBM and NMFBM, but I couldn't put the MOAB down. I probably chopped through about two dozen times with the MOAB. I'm actually pretty much in awe of it. Of course now that I have stopped I realize how tired my hand and forearm are. If I keep this up I'll be looking like Popeye.
Long story short, if you are on the fence, go and get yourself a MOAB! Here are a couple pics I snapped with my phone.
