What can your fixed blade do that my folder cant?

coyotesniper69, how do you like the tubular handle on that knife?

The handle is very comfortable in the hand, The tubular design allows it to be used like a hand drill and The 1 piece hollow handle is mega impressive. The biggest drawback of the whole knife is that it is butt heavy so its not even close to being considered a chopper. Some folks don't care for the nurled handle but I have not had any problems with it being abrassive.

Coyotesniper69,

I don't recognize the folding knife. What is it?

Thanks,

The folder is an Extrema Ratio RES. It was designed for italian special forces and chopper pilots. It initials stand for Rescue, Escape and Survival. It has an auto deployed seatbelt cutter, glass breaker, saw and knife. Its made out of N690 steel and it a very impressive knife to use. Its saw is very effective but I find it operates at about 90% effeciency of a SAK saw. Its downsides are price (approx $260 MSRP) and weight (I think its 8 ounces). It has a descent liner lock (1 ea for the blade and saw) and the seat belt cutter is locked in place by the push button that deploys it. It is my newest EDC. Sorry if I got a little to detailed about it but I think its a great knife and there are not many reviews of it that I could find. One other note of caution: I ordered mine through cherokeeoutpost because he had them for around $150 but it took a month to get the knives, his customer service sucks and he has been getting some bad reviews on this site for selling knives that he does not have in stock. Mine were shipped straight from Italy and got held up in customs, thats why it took so long for them to arrive.

Back to the originnal question; what can a fixed blade due that a folder can't. Well here is a pic that I was trying to locate. This shows the real beauty of a large fixed blade knife.

I think I could do this with my SAK Trekker, using the saw blade and ringing the circumference.
It would probably take me, oh, 20 minutes? Maybe more depending on much the sawteeth loaded with wood and resin.

Large fixed blade, less than 1 minute.

All tools have their uses.

And why did you need to cut down that tree?

Here I am wondering when is that guy going to cut through the darn log? :o

I Betcha I could go back to that video in ten years and he still wouldn't have made any progress. :D

Oh how I wish I had the completed cut on that log . I would finish the GIF just for you. LOL. And FWIW, that is my wife using the saw :)

Where Cliff lives there is no shortage of trees or moose for that matter believe me.;)

The handle is very comfortable in the hand...

Cool. The reason I ask is, I\ve always heard that a tubular knurled handle would be hard to control. But your pic reminded me, I've used riveting hammers with the same shape handle, and I didn't have any trouble aiming or controlling them... I still wouldn't want one one a large knife, but on a medium oir smaller one like that it may be worth re-thinking... would give me an excuse to buy one for testing purposes ;)

looks like it. Here is what I have been carrying on nature hikes:

and here is a pic of the saw in action:

man, I have been watching for 3 hours now and you still haven't cut that small log. I think you need to return that saw:D

Another failed patent.

"The Teflon impregnated, toothless, frictionless saw"

In concept it would effortless,
in reality, it is a wood polisher. :D :p ;)

[j/k of course]
