What did you do to/with your Becker today?

On Saturday I shot a goat on a scrubby hillside at a distance of around 200 yards. I had my scope screwed up to maximum power, so with the recoil of the .308 I lost sight of the goat... although I was fairly certain that I'd got it. To get to where I'd last seen the goat I had to get through patches of some of the most unpleasant plants we have in our area (all introduced).... barberry, gorse and blackberry vine. I used a BK9 to clear a path, and it worked brilliantly. Once upon a time I would have thought that a 12" machete would be heaps better at chopping compared to a '9, but that Becker parted the brush with ease. I've been surprised at how well it cuts through thin blackberry vine being a relatively thick and heavy knife.

I found the goat more or less where I expected it to be. I cut it up on the hillside and carried the meat away in my home-made pack.

Meant to post this the other day. Yay for another hunting season!

We had a BBQ:

Chickenbreast only seasoned with Salt, Pepper and Thyme.

Beetroot with triple cheese topping and Olive oil :)

Went fossil hunting today. There are several old quarries that excavated clay in the not so distant past.
The EU decided that the quality of the clay wasn't good enough so these quarries are starting to get overgrown, and the machines are rusting away quietly.

In the distance you can see the old excavator next to the quarry wall.

On the right of this pic you can see the conveyor belt that transported the clay from the excavator to a big clay pile that was excavated and transported afterwards.

The layer we needed was in a quarry that's even older and in the meantime completely overgrown.
Was I lucky to bring my bk4.
Used the 4 A LOT to clean out the area and to create a platform with some young samplings onto the front of the creek. If not, you could go looking for your boots. Quicksand all over the place.
Platform being built :

Mud everywhere...

Poor result for a lot of hard work... But this Era is lacking in my collection. Oligocene. And it's not supposed to resurface in any new quarries anytime soon... So I'm happy

The real king of the day though, time to give it a bath.

Hope you guys enjoyed the pics.

Nice pics, looks dirty and fun.

My usage was relegated to cutting down a bunch of overgrown black locust shoots that were left neglected over the summer.
Would have been an easy weeding job when young, but the grow too damned fast and got to use my 5 for a bit.

No pics, sorry folks.

I sold one of my 12's and my other RBK to a friend and fellow knife enthusiast ( - duh - ). He'll at least take the RBK outta the box (pretty sure the 12 is for the son).....I love mine, but it's becoming clear to me that I have spares (for spares, in some cases) and I won't need them, Ethan's tools are so sturdy. Plus I really don't like the thought of ANY of my knives sitting in boxes unused - unless it's a gift I'm giving. S' OK if they're unused riding around in a pack or bag, but....It felt pretty good to do a (tiny) little purge - plus it doesn't suck to have cash in my pocket. This friend also received, from his son, a Machax for Christmas. Uses it all the time. He's a 'Head already. I gave him a pretty good deal, too....so we're still friends - as long as he doesn't de-limb himself with the RBK.

Used the 14 to open the Brute
Thanks Foofie for your help
You Beckerheads are awesome as the Brute made the rounds and found its way back
Now the Mods can begin as Blade is as new, No chips or fractures
Clitch U Next then 710
Oh Yeh the stock sheath not a sheath at all
All Brutes need this 1

You sold a 12? GSOM the champion of the 12? I'm going to need a minute to orient myself to a new reality.

You should take a few photos gutting/cleaning the squirrel with your 16. ;)

It's a good way to get my phone all gooey.

For skinning, you don't really use the knife that much - I cut through the tail (cut below the base of the tail and above the pooper) and use the knife to skin up to the hips and up each of the back legs a bit, turn the squirrel over and stand on that flap (NOT the tail but that flap of skin). From there, pull the back legs and the skin comes off the front half pretty easily. Grab the skin by the hips and just 'pull off their pants'. Clip the ankles with game shears and take the head off with the knife and zip them open from collar bone to pelvis and pull out all the gooey bits from top down.

Start to finish, that takes a minute or two with 95% of the time spent on the initial cut and initial skinning.
