What did you do to/with your Becker today?

15 was on regular lunch duty for the fruit ('cause it's so sLIcey!) along with daizee's "Mariner" (Seaman?) for sausage and cheese patrol. No pics for you!

Where did you order the Red Dragon from?

I got it at the big river store. They had the 400K unit on sale for $85 along with the squeeze trigger assembly. (actually they still have a few at that price). Everyone I spoke to about them said ignore the 100K unit. Several folks first ordered the 100K, even though they were told to go for the 400K at a minimum. Everyone of them upgraded and sold their 100Ks. The 100Ks are good for SMALL jobs, say, the cracks in sidewalks and driveways, etc, but can't handle bigger jobs/bigger weeds.

For $170 (vs $85), I'll forgo the performance difference between 400K and 500K. I'm trying to cook weeds, not trees. :D I have close to 8-9K sq ft of gravel driveways and parking areas to deweed. I'm getting too old to pull/chop the out any more plus that's really slow. I've been spraying them with Round-up, but I always have to take into consideration the wind (for drift) and how soon it's gonna rain after I get it sprayed out. Now I'll be able to wage war on the weeds whether or not it's windy right up to when it starts to rain. :D:D

Ahhh...I've been eyeballing these.

I believe some action pics are necessary here...

I'll get some after I get it hooked up. Some assembly was required. Not much, only took about a half hour, and half of that was spent opening the boxes, inventorying the parts, searching for a second adjustable wrench. The slowest part of the assembly process was gooping the threads for each fitting connection. Probably try it out this Saturday. Too much to do tomorrow.

I could have paid extra for a cart/propane tank combo, but since I have a couple of extra 2-wheeled dollies and 5 or 6 20# propane tanks, I'm rigging up my own. I need to weld a couple of pegs onto a dolly nose so the propane tank won't pop off the dolly and I intend to make and weld a wand bracket and a striker hook onto the dolly as well.

What did I do today?

I hit my knife with rocks...

... and started some fires.

Sorry, no fire pics :( but I have gotten quite proficient at this. :D

Getting ready to take the King out and clear a path to get to the tree where my deer stand is going up tomorrow.

Have a chainsaw attachment that attaches to my new string trimmer shaft that allows me to reach up 11 feet and clear shooting lanes, but the path to get to the base will be hacked out with the 9. A worthy adversary for the undergrowth for sure.

Be careful and watch for hangers and the bar getting bit by the limb.

Your best bet would be to make two cuts on the underside of the limb about 2" apart and then make your cut down from the top in between those two under cuts.

The limb will bend down from the top cut and instead of the limb peeling and pinching your bar, the peel will go from one undercut to the other and pop right off.

I went out after dark to reset some traps that had been disturbed on a neighbor's place. I used a '9 to make some pegs and do some trimming. These knives are such good tools.

The '9 and I went and retrieved a small boar that had wandered into a snare. This is the first time I've had a '9 when I've caught a pig, but it was hardly a match for it.

Had a little dirt time with my oldest daughter at a place called The Urban Forestry Center. Situated along a tidal river, with salt marsh and woodland + old farm on the road side of the property. Went over to work on her summer work for Ecology class or some such. All kinds of habitats to explore. Anyway, took my 17.

I like the look of that 17.

I wistfully admired a couple of my Beckers today while contemplating what I should take with me when I go to live with my elderly mother who needs some care and attention. I might be moving in with her tomorrow. She's 85 and not quite as physically capable as she once was. She lives in a big old cold house on about two wild acres of semi-rural hillside. Not an ideal environment for a great-grandma, but she ain't keen on moving. This may turn out to be an interesting phase. I can fondle a Becker to remind me of who I am and what I like to do. Plus I'll be able to use it to slash the pest plants which are invading her property.

I used my BK10 ("Charlize") to peel a bunch of kindling from some freshly fallen pine trees that I cut and split.
I noticed the edge was ever so slightly rolled, so I shaped it up on a smooth rock that I found in the root ball of an uprooted tree.

My only complaint was that when I set it down to tend the fire, the black-handled knife with the black blade and black paracord lanyard would literally vanish!

True.
After the third time I asked my daughter to shine the LED from her phone on the ground, she said "What is WRONG with you?!?!?"

On another note, anyone know what the factory edge angle is on the Becker BK10/Crewman?
I assume I'll need to touch it up in a few months and can't come up with any relevant search results here or with my Googlefu.
The factory edge has worked just fine for me: I figure I'll do my best to emulate it.

Well I headed to the farm today to clean up some roads for deer season.

Chopping stuff like this down.

Another tree!

I left this laying by the tree I was sitting on my last hunt of the season last year.

Still works ha

Had a good time with the bk2.

Put the 7, 11, 15 and 16 on the Work Sharp. Nice and sharp now and ready to get back to work.
