What did you rehang today?

It has a nice feel too. Very little handle shock. If used it politely it may be fine for a tool this size. Looking forward to testing it out some more.

I missed the Cherry part of your hang - it is a beautiful handle. I'd be curious to see how it holds up - was it cherry you harvested, dimensional lumber or other?

Thanks. It is made from a 1 1/4 thick rough board I had left over from another project. I will update with how it holds up.

Plumb super scout axe rafting pattern? Or cedar? with the original handle that had been cut down jammed in and had a tail off a file banged into it, it had no shoulder left and wasn't worth saving imo. I may use it for a hammer handle in the future.
I liked the size of it for a little carving and camp hatchet so stuck with a similar size.

That's a national pattern and a nice one.Is that a wide Dayton or a Connie with bevels?Real nice.
Wide dayton. Almost unused.
Edit: i had thought it was a wide dayton but now you've got me thinking. After looking at wide dayton perfects it seems the heel side angle steepens rather abruptly but mine seem a little more smooth of a transition. Anyone care to chime in? Im australian so don't have much experience with us patterns.
Tasmanians bloody everywhere.

Kelly axes marked "True Temper" appear in True Temper's 1938 catalog, but this doesn't rule out that "True Temper" stamps also appeared on some Kelly axes earlier than this (between 1930 and 1938).

That said, I'd guesstimate the likely date of manufacture to be in the range 1938-1941 (which assumes that the 1938 catalog was the major introduction of True Temper axes, and also assumes that wartime production during 1942 was not used for the CCC program that was being discontinued.

hey steve, do you still have that old 1938 kelly catalogue? maybe we can settle this

I found this that Steve had posted not to long ago...

I also have it saved to my home page.
Thanks Steve.

This is a 3lb Chinese head on an older reclaimed cut down full-size handle. The lady that watches my daughter presented me with it to fix. It turned out solid.

I had a little time to get things off my bench today. This is an HB hewing hatchet that needed a rehang. The wedge was glued in there so I just left it and kerfed it down the middle. Less is more I figure. It’s sharp enough to use now and the previous owner repair is smoothed out to the point you don’t feel it.

Excellent time management to find yourself at your bench for a bit...on a FRIDAY:thumbsup::)

Great to see the vintage handles reused, love the shrooming of the haft when wedged ;)
