We had one very late fall strawberry still hanging on and getting ripe. Went out to pick it and some critter had eaten it! (Could have been a squirrel, raccoon, possum, or even an eastern box turtle!)
My son is growing these strawberries and he monitors them daily and yes it's sad when one gets eaten. In our case its common blackbirds causing the grief. I have a motion activated sprinkler now and it works a treat keeping the little buggers away.We had one very late fall strawberry still hanging on and getting ripe. In the normal growing season we keep them covered with bird netting, but this one decided to show up quite late and we didn't think to cover it.
