What did your SAK do today?

What did my SAK do today? It broke. It whimpered like a little girl and then broke while opening a bottle of wine. I bought a Spartan after I landed in Madrid so I'd have a few basic tools with me while on vacation. Three weeks later, in Portugal now, and she finally gave way. A shame too, as I was really beginning to warm to the functionality over a standard pocket knife. I've been checking in on the forums and was even planning a pocket clip mod to make it my EDC once I got back. Time to rethink that. Damn shame.

Interesting. Could you tell us exactly how it broke? Any chance you could post photos? I am really curious as to how it failed as I carry and use one everyday.

I'd like to see some pics too.

Today my Farmer cut some slices of cheese for a sandwich, unscrewed the battery hatch on a remote, and opened a beer with dinner :) Also after dinner I used the toothpick on my Classic for it's intended purpose.

The weak point for the back tools is the brass rivet. I've seen it snap a few times, although rare. The pivot hole in the steel tool actually shears it right through. It does take significant torque to do this however, but that's what fails. I've seen it more with backside philips failures though than corkscrews.

Not today, but last Saturday I fixed the interior door handle on my mom's car with the Phillips screwdriver on my Vic Tinker. The screw on one end was pulling out, so I popped off the plastic cover and tightened that sucker down. She was elated since she thought she was going to have to take it to a mechanic to get it fixed.

So far today my I've used the tweezers on my Tinker to clean pocket lint out of the pivot of my Mini-Grip and I've used the large blade to cut open a bag.

I used my Trailmaster to open packets of instant coffee. I know, not the typical fare for such a robust blade, but hey, it's my "whatever knife." Whatever the situation, whatever the need, whatever has to be done, it is the first knife I go to (unless of course I'm in court or some government/strict building where it needs to stay in the car). It's always very sharp (mostly due to the fact that the blade never hits the liner due to the ample space provided for the blade) and very durable, both in the blades and in the scale (don't have to worry about putting it on a rough surface, unlike my cellidor models that I have to take extra care of).

So yeah... opened packets of instant coffee. And oh yeah, peeled an apple.

Because they were the sharpest and most precise at hand, I used my wife's Climber scissors to snip away a small tag on her bra while she was wearing it. It was small and not stiff, but had a small ridge that was driving her crazy.

Later, my Tinker blade was used for some spontaneous trimming of vines trying to get a foothold on the outer walls of our house.

Climber.

Opened mail, open pack of cashews, tweezed metal splinter out of finger, tightened reading glasses (yeah, I now have reading glasses).

Vic Classic.

Little service today. Used the scissors to open a bag of nuts. Thats all. Which leaves me wondering, "what did I do all day?"

Put the SAK Ranger Plus to the test this morning and some real hard use. The corkscrew was perfect to untie a knot in the elastic band on my daughters bead bracelet and the scissors got the job done cutting the tag off her ballet leotard.

Hard use!

The hardest part is raising daughters, but there are definite perks. A good friend accompanied his for trying on wedding dresses a few weeks ago. He texted me saying, "Sometimes a dad's job with his daughter is just to say, 'Yes honey, you look beautiful!'"

Cybertool 41, tweezed a splinter, pliers to pull weeds wound around my trimmer shaft, needle to clean out a carb hole, - pen to jot a note, reamer to 'try' to adjust a proprietary carb adjustment screw (didn't work)

My Spartan got admired after being cleaned in hot soapy water to remove whittling residue from a pin oak. Demonstrated the "stick-through-a-stick" whittle by using the auger to drill a hole through a smooth whittled branch and then inserting a thinner stick through the hole.

Oh yeah, and then killed an apple.

Today mine opened about twenty boxes from moving, helped me put together a peice of furnature and helped me cut a peice of chicken off the bone.

I would have used a kitchen knife for the chicken, but I'm not fully moved in yet.

Today, used my Vic Executive to file my nails and to open the mail. Used my Alox Soldier to open 4 cans of ingredients while preparing supper.
