What do you carry?

Late to the party with this reply, but recently I was "forced" to sign off on my employer's weapon policy that includes sharp objects. No sharp objects for Jeff at work. Lord...signing an acknowledgement of this policy is depressing to no end. I now feel naked. Before that, for years, a Spyderco went with me everywhere during my work days.

Now, in the evenings and on the weekends, I EDC one of several Spydercos. My fav. is an older C05 Standard which has G10 scales and ATS-55 blade. The C05 is the same size as the Delica, but a bit more sturdily constructed. The other Spydies in rotation are a stainless Delica and FRN Delica.

I want a Manix, or one of the other super new G10 Spydies, but I seem to keep buying these great big hand-made khukuris from Nepal. Good problem to have. :D

Things sure are different in Canada. Heavier on the gun laws, looser on the knife laws. I'm not aware of any blade length restrictions, though there are restrictions on carrying concealed weapons, and you can't carry two-edged knives.

Same goes for workplace restrictions. I can't recall ever seeing a weapons policy in any of the places I've worked ... guess folks didn't think one was needed.

EDC is a basic Stockman pattern folder, from my Dad ages ago. But a decent Pukko is always in the coat, and the 16 1/5" WWII comes with me when I have to go on trips in the car.

There's a 12" khuk in the truck at all times. If I'm out of doors it would be a 18" khuk. I have a German Eye knife in my pocket. The blades aren't but around 2" or so, but that eye looks terrible in its wrath.

I carried a Delicia for almost a decade. Then last time I saw Wal, he gave me a Spydie Wegner. I've been carrying it ever since. There are times when it is a *bit* big and draws an OHHH from co-workers. But what the heck. I like the heft and it fits nicely in a side pocket.

Now that I'm out here in the wild west, I might try one of those plasma rifles though... good bear gun :D

It depends. I typically take a Helle puukko in a neck sheath to Scout meetings. My "big" pocket carry these days in the Kershaw Talon that came from the sale of Rusty's collection. I also typically carry a New York Knife Co. slipjoint (spear main; pen; sheep's foot). My backpacking sheath knife is a Swamp Rat Inficoot. The Honda comes equipped with a hand axe, prunning saw and "Draper" Ka-Bar (Imagine having Draper [$$$$$ !!] ruin the collector value of a WWII Mark II by rehandling and reprofiling it. Close as I'll come to a Draper.)

and i'd like to keep it that way. i carry usually carry a folder with me and i have enough sense not to wave it around.

all it takes is one idiot to ruin it. exercise some common sense and remember that sheep scare easy.

(and i say sheep in a tongue in cheek manner)

I agree Dave. That's why I don't even own things that look scary and tactical.

As I said, EDC is a basic people-friendly folder; the 3 1/2" bladed pukko in the coat stays in its pocket ... but is frequently used in the garden, for cutting rope at the hardware store, etc. As for the 16 1/2" WWII on car trips? Well, where I live there are a lot of collisions with wildlife on the road. The last time I drove to a meeting in the town 4 hours away, I saw 2 moose on the shoulder. The time before, another moose'd lost a rather nasty argument with an 18 wheeler, and a car (following) had gone into the ditch. But in arguments with cars, a 1500 pound moose will often come off better than the vehicle, landing hard on the windshield.

As I'm having to travel regularly in an area where I might need to cut someone (or myself) out of a car in such an accident, I want the tool to do the job. It stays strapped under my seat 'till then. I think of it as cheap insurance ... like the sleeping bag and first-aid kit in the trunk.

My police state of Santa Clara County makes it impossible for a CCW. On my days off I carry a custom Boye Dendritic utility blade on my belt and carry swiss army knife on my keyring. At work I slip a Benchmade Mchenry and Williams 1 in 500 folder into the side pocket of my cargo pants. On vacation I strap my 16.5" WWII on and roam the national forests west of Yosemite hiking and backpacking. I sometimes carry my Marlin Papoose(handiest little .22 rifle ever-also the ugliest) strapped to the frame of my pack.
