What do you guys think of this Special 110

Does anyone know if it was done by Buck or outsourced?

Maybe CJ, Joe, or the Duck will answer that question.
I just assumed that Buck was doing it for SMKW because they've made it the front page item on their catalog so I'd think they ordered enough to justify a sprint run at 660 South Lochsa Street. :)

Edit: The catalog gold medallion that says, SMKW Exclusive Authentic

I will say the Script Logo with the Hammer and Knife is just plain good looking.

I believe (for what it's worth) that they are being done by Buck. When I saw the ones that are listed as "O/Buck's" (check them out there), I contacted them and was told that they had been outsourced for the work on the handles and not from Buck. They are the $100 Dollar Bill, Basketweave, Skull & Crossbones and Timber Rattler.

I'm assuming, (maybe incorrectly) that since these aren't named as an O/Buck, they will be Buck factory work. I hope so anyway. Here's two that are outsourced for sure.

I'm not generally real keen on the redo's, that aren't done by Buck.
However Flat has been doing some terrific work, as well has Redmund . I think it goes without saying the YellowHorse knives are very nice.

I'd really like to look at this new knife in person. Somehow I wouldn't expect to be disappointed. IMO it takes the knife to an elevated status.
Hopefully the work is recessed to where all the pieces are flush

This knife looks cool enough irregardless of if it was Buck directly or outsourced.

I'd have bought at least one regardless. I have several outsourced 110/111's and Im happy with them all. Especially the one done by Flatlander.

I just sent an inquiry to SMKW's customer service and asked about them. They got back to me pretty quickly last time when I asked about the "O/Bucks".

PD, it's works... I'll have to try and contact them tomorrow... Never bought anything from them before.... and I got a new Grandaughter today, so there's not much time to do anything right now....

Thanks again,
Armand

Congrats on the new Grandaughter. Wish I had one, all I've got are a couple of hairy legged Grandsons.

Absolutely.. His work makes the 110's look sweet. Gotta love the fancy wood

Here's the answer from SMKW's customer service,

"Dear Customer,
As far as I can tell this item is made entirely by Buck.
Thank you for choosing Smoky Mountain Knife Works, we look forward to doing business with you again soon.

Respectfully,
HELP
Smoky Mountain Knife Works, Inc.

Sort of a "squishy" answer from SMKW.

As far as I know..............

Maybe someone from Buck will be able to confirm or deny it more clearly.

Either way, it is a good looking 110!

Yeah, that's a pretty soft answer. They were right up front before about the O/Bucks being done by someone else. I hope Joe or CJ will chime in here about it.

The box label will tell the story. If it is a standard Buck 110 label, it will likely be an aftermarket project. If the label is non-standard, it will indicate Buck did a special project in-house. I have a hunch that Buck did this one.

I have conflicting thoughts about it(being the least knowlegable-figgered I'd pipe in) 1st wouldnt it be a copyright problem using the Buck logo if they outsourced it. 2nd if it is a Buck project and it is N/S bolsters and liner and special scales, wouldnt the tang have some sort of custom or LE marking?

Well, I do know that they use the Buck "logo" on the O/Bucks and they are for sure worked on by someone else after they leave the factory. They are still Bucks and there are alot of aftermarket modified ones selling all over. Joe was aware of that and I figure they would be on SMKW's case if it was an issue.

I have both versions of the Final Production run 111's that I think were a SMKW's exclusive from Buck and they don't have Custom or LE on them although the engraved bolster model is serialized.

Unless someone from Buck chimes in one way or another, we may never know for sure.

I just spoke to a Buck employee. It is a special project and Buck anticipates the first shipments to SMKW "in the next week or two".

Thanks, Plumberdv ... she is beautiful and I hope to give her a buck knife someday... My other Grandaughter, her sister love Buck knives, she is 2 1/2 years old... She will get one or two real soon... Well I have one for her all ready... I just want to wait a few more years before I give it to her...

Thanks again,
ITE

They have these listed today with " add to cart " so they must have them in stock now.
Also order 2 and get free shipping.

Yup, there made here at Buck. I better grab a couple while I can! I really like the logo and the bone handle.
