What do you hoe to accomplish or hone in the coming year?

I am gonna get out to the WLC and tonyms, and out to california to hang with Mike for a bit, and maybe attend a shoot, or that cool strawberry music thing. A midwest gathering will happen at some point, even if its just me and Snow out there! JKs blade day gathering too!:D

I also hope to gain more wild edible info, and hone my archery skills a bit more. I also have a load of CEUs to do for my EMS license.

A RAT trip would be stelar too, as would Blade show, but not sure if that will happen.

I am gonna focus alot of energy into putting alot of stuff on woodsmonkey.

Of course I hope for health and success, for my family, and all of you. I want to get out and really get some dirt time with my sons. Particularly my oldest.

Gear and blades, well, I am gonna get a siltarp and hennesey hammock before spring, and already have a monster blade on order from Koyote. Other then that, some JKs, and Laconicos, and a few from some other makers here. I am also gonna get my first axe ever from Brian Andrews, and get some dirt time with it. A couple from Gossman will be done, as well as my reeves double bit.

Hope all of you have a successfull, healthy, and fun, new year.

What do you hope for??

Compass work ( I suck at it). Build some shelters. Sleep outdoors more often. Teach my sons how to make fire various ways, buy a couple knives, practice my knots. Get a bigger pack for extended trips. Learn to make wooden sheaths.

Take a LOT more photos. Take a class at WLC. Meet Noshtero, Stomper, Jake, Snow, and whoever else can get together in person. Call Reuben and pick his brain about lightweight items.

Get back into training in martial arts regularly. I have many years of experience, but I feel out of it since my instructor's school closed and I have not found a new one. Maybe I will take up boxing.

if the midwest gathering is close to the missouri oklahoma border area, i might like to do that.

i need to get better at edible plans, chordage making and figure 4's. for some reason, the figure 4's give me trouble.

hoping to get better at the trad bow shooting. hoping to start making more knives, maybe selling a few once i get some better tools and i become a bit more confident in my work.

i have several acedemic goals for school, but ill spare you the time and just get you the gist of it: pass a few of the AP exams so i can get some college credit early, get into the top 10 in my graduating class.

contributing more to the forums would be good, i dont think i post enough pics.

and, there is definatly some gear that id like to get, a JK knife (or 2), a double-bit axe from briangandrews(already on order) and probably most importantly, a pack. i dont have a pack outside of the one i use for school, so a good pack would be cool, i might even splurge and get a duluth, mostly since i am into the traditional thing.

I'd like to meet a few more members, buy Esav a drink, debating on taking the basic course with WLC in late summer, although, that will mean cancelling our fly-in fishing trip. The wife and I are talking about that one. I have to get around to building myself a couple of figure 4's and set to work trying to learn bow-drill friction fire. I'm going to try to buy fewer knives and use the gear that I have. Finally, I want to set up a contest with a special prize to W&SS members but that one will wait for a lull since there have been so many great contests recently and on-going.

I am also gonna get down to Charlieridges shop and learn to forge.

I am also gonna fish and hunt my brainns out and buy a canoe.

i have been collecting alot of gear this winter, and i'm not done yet! by spring i want to have a really solid setup that i can grab and go for off-the-cuff weekend adventures. i want to be able to just walk out the door and head to the woods for the night without needing to plan everything out.

this spring (as long as everything goes well  ) i will be graduating highschool...

so far, my tentative plan is to work over the summer and save up a little $$, and then do some travelling in the fall. nowhere in particular, just everywhere... i figure since i'm young and stupid i can get away with doing this ;)

i'm hoping to meet up with alot more members, maybe attend one of those chop fests over in california.

hey J, when you make it to Tony's place maybe i could meet you then. he's only about an hour away from me...

I have a few basic goals:

- Become better at land nav
- Save up for, and purchase, a Kifaru ParaTarp w/ matching stove
- Get outside more than I did in 08

If I could do all of those, I'd be extremely happy.

Well, Im definetly getting out more.
I spent alot of time out in the woods while back east, but sense I moved back west i've been too busy.
Also joining the Canadian rangers which will get me out more, a ten day training course. Plus I want to get some serious survival training, I dont think there is anything more seriuos then -60*c survival, northing.

Simon that would be great, Id love to meet you. The plan is to go out to the WLC, and hang with tony for a day or so before we go, and a day or so after we return, so that leaves some time to come out...

Bowhunting and more fishing.
More camping with kids and maybe find a buddy to do outdoors stuff with.
Plant ID and uses.
Get my health back and walk/hike more.

I plan on teaching more students a wider variety of skills and do so effectively. I also would like to do more canoe camping and hopefully do an Allagash trip this year. I would like to spend less on knives (I'm waiting for laughs) and help my girlfriend get an introduction into what we all love to do in the woods.

I want to grind my own knives with my new sander.

After that I'll make some sheaths for them. I bought a hide a short while back to house some Mora, Helle and other blade projects. My new Koster Bushcraft needs pants too. Just gotta get working on it.

I could also brush up on knotwork and I'd love to learn how to work with paracord like the stuff on Stormdrane's blog.

I'd like to get out more and do more canoeing too. Having a 2 year old kept me close to home.

Finally, I'm looking forward to getting my Koster BushMaster. That's gonna be a fun knife to play with!

this spring (as long as everything goes well  ) i will be graduating highschool...

i always assumed you were the same age or a year younger than me, i dont know why, but i was obviously wrong. i am merely a junior. my older brother is a senior, hes headed to Xavier university on a scholarship after this year. so i guess this makes me the youngest WS&S regular.

A junior!!!!

We have some very mature young pups around here:thumbup:

Makes me feel old, and I was a senior 9 years ago!

No kidding. I just had my 10 year high school reunion last month. Good to get an early start though.

I have a few basic goals:

- Become better at land nav
- Save up for, and purchase, a Kifaru ParaTarp w/ matching stove
- Get outside more than I did in 08

If I could do all of those, I'd be extremely happy.

Also, I intend on spending more of my budget on traveling and taking trips than buying new gear that I really don't need.

I spent more than I wanted to on knives and gear in 08, and while I like them, now that I have a good base of items built up I will be streamlining and getting rid of unnecessary stuff. If gas prices stay where they're at that money is going to pay for me to go to a lot of cool places. Michigan's UP, Montana, and mid Ontario Canada are all on my list.

Yeah my ten year reunion is in a few months.

Nice to see young people as involved as we get round here.

No kidding, but I do love seeing 'young' guys around the forum. Makes up for old crotchety guys like Doc. :D

Lots I want to do in 09

-Finish last classroom semester of pharmacy (dear god, let it end!)
-Get out in the woods a lot more often, sleep in made shelters
-Master the damn bowdrill
-Master some basic knots
-Meet some folks in person!

I think that's about it for 'main' goals and wilderness goals. Getting tons more dirt time would really be tops though.

My one goal is to get out and sleep more often in shelters. I also would like to get to sharpen knives much more often.
