  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

What do you hope to accomplish in 09?

I am also gonna get down to Charlieridges shop and learn to forge.

I am also gonna fish and hunt my brainns out and buy a canoe.

Gee that sound like fun,

I am trying to get stuff rounded up to make/mod some knives, axes and other choppers, am I the only guy with 3 billhooks in the shed?

Got a delta 1'X42" sanders, small drill press and some buffing supplies.

I am thinking about making a L P forge for some heat n beat and tempering.

Other than that watching the Economy, paying bills, and trying to stay off the po'farm. Pat

I want to:

1.) Dig myself out of the hole I'm in because of my surgery.
2.) Hit the trails in the local park more often for exercise.
3.) Carve out some more campsites in the local woods near the lake for camping/fishing
4.) Camp/fish more often.

-Sleep outside a few times.
-Get a bike and use it (lose a few pounds)
-Make some knives and actually sell them
-Write a book
-Hunt more (dog will like that)
-More archery, and actually buy a deer tag
-replace all the carpet in my house with wood laminate
-finish my planter boxes and plant lots of vegetables -- grow my own food
-trim my rose bushes back before they start greening up again
-plant a pomegranate tree

Stuff like that.

Yeah my ten year reunion is in a few months.

Nice to see young people as involved as we get round here.

Man...I thought y'all were older than that. I graduated in '02...

Oh...

1.I wanna get out of the college debt hole I am in and get back on the dean's list
2. Get back in shape (lose about 60# over the next 2 yrs.)
3. Get out more
4. Find a girl who likes getting out as much as I do.
5. Shoot the damn mountain lion off my dang deer lease
6. Stop buying gear until I use all I have and give away what I don't use.
7. Learn a new skill
8. Finish my Swahili so I can start on Mandarin
9. No more smokes...it's been a few months.
10. The most important one to me--Spend more time in studying/absorbing the Scriptures and less goofing off.

my stuff is pretty basic. this is my first year collecting knives and getting into outdoors stuff, so i want to get maybe 1 more good fixed blade, custom, and one more good fixed porduction, RAT. from there i am set on folders so i want to invest into more camping items aka firesteel, paracord, tarp, billy can, etc. and then from there i want to do an overnighter someoner. we have a state park here in northeastern florida, round south jacksonville somewhere that id like to sleep in if possible and to hike it. and the big wammy is getting my girlfriend to come with me and introduce it all to her :)

My W&SS goals for 2009 are similar to others here:

-get outside more, learn and practice skills
-buy less gear and figure out what I really need, save money for trips
-get back into shape
-explore and research customs and maybe branch out by getting one or two
-get better at sharpening

I forgot one more: Work up to an overnighter or short back-packing trip!

I'm hoping to get a meetup with Reuben, Cbryant, back up to assault Mike with my son :D. J Williams, if you get out to CA, i'm a few hours from Mike.

I want to get plenty more shooting in.

Since Ms Koyote starts the accelerated Nursing Program From Hell next week, for the next 18 months my woods time is likely to be limited to VERY occasional overnights with Leif (he's 5), invisible day wilderness hiking with both kids and Koyote Girl (Leif is 5, but Astrid is 2, and Victoria the amazing rottweiler is 5 months) in local surrounds.

A few speicifc goals in that area are to do "find" training with Tory and the kids, get Tory non leash trained well, and work with leif on basic compass, map making, and 'makin stuff'.

Archery is in there, but not sure how often we'll get out. Astrid is too young to do it, or self occupy for long, but Leif does love shooting.

For the shop I have the first of necker pattern 2 done and about to go off to SoCal for testing, but I need to work on pattern 3, the field dirk designs, the tactical sgian dubh and "utilidirk" designs. I REALLY need to get a mill, a tap and die set, a better shop housing, and another grinder set up for low low speed. For scandis I could use a set of 18 inch long stones, but those are $$$$$$$$$. I do intend to get all this fitted out this year, one way or another.

The shop housing, even a surplus military tent and light kit, could double my production even AFTER the nursing school starts. A mill isn't as essential, but would speed up my work on the through tang knives.

It would be sweet to make it out to a cali meetup when im out there. Lots of folks I wanna kick it with from Cali!

Well i've got a baby due in Feb, so thats been our primary focus getting ready for that. My wife knows i've skipped many trips in 08 so even with the new baby has already told me to make plans in 09 to catch up with friends outdoors. I think she just wants time with her mom to go shopping :D . I've been able to aquire some new gear in 08 due to selling and swapping some stuff and 09 should have time to get out and use it.

With all the talk of age in this thread, i've got to stop and let it sink in that i'm 37. Most of my friends in northern Ca are in there early 20's and it's getting tougher to keep up with them. I think 09 will be a great year to cut back on unnecessary spending and wasting time, and really get things done that matter.

edited to add: I'd be interested in a Ca get together, i'm way up in Redding, but i've got family and friends still in fremont, modesto, pleasanton, so i might be able to swing making an event with a little lead time.

I was just talking to someone else about that. I'd try to find somewhere near the 80/5 region, see if one of the frmers out around here (I'm in Davis) who borders on the creeks wouldn't mind a group setting out for a day or even overnighter stay. Or maybe one of the campgrounds up around berryessa or clear lake?

Well for this year I have alot of plans!
1. I am a Christian & the #1 thing this year for me is to be a better person & get closer to GOD !
2. Get my twin boys out in the woods more (hikes, fishing, & camping)
3.work on my Compass/navigation skills
4. Get myself in better shape & lose 20~30lbs

Badly. it seems like everyone has their hand out for more money except my employer to give me more to keep up with everything...

2010, I want to be out of this state. That's the only goal.

Of course I want to spend as much time as I can outdoors this year. Did spend time outdoors but, is it ever enough?

Spend more time using the stuff I have and less time buying more. That was too easy. Couldn't afford more stuff. :p

Meet some of the good people here. Did that at the Waterloo get together. Tried to get together with Mtnfolk Mike while in CA but time didn't allow.

Make my first knife. Nope

Get back to West Virginia (had to cancel 2008 trip). Nope

Fill the freezer with Walleye, panfish and a wild turkey or two. No Turkey or Walleye but plenty of Crappie and Bluegill.

Get my CPL (concealed Pistol License). Nope

Think I'll set the bar a little lower in '10. :p
