all of my EDC options live next to the bed
wallet, keys, cellphone etc are either there or in my pocket
at the moment i also have,
Magcharger flashlight and Inova T4 under the bed, a Fiskars 14" hatchet standing up between the bed and the bedside table
on the bedside table i have
2x mini maglites, Invoa T3, Surefire 6P, 6p/KL3, U2 and Creemated L4, Novatac EDC 120P, CRKT stubby and Ringed Razels, my convexed spyderco dragonfly, my spydie cricket, 2 Vic Saks, a Krill Light, and a digital camera
oh, theres also a 2d maglite, and a 60cm length of 16mm riobar too
guard animals are a fat lazy cat, and an orange blur, that looks like a cat when it stops warping around the house

and these two babies are between the mattress/box springs and the wall. our bed is on the floor so they sit nestled in a 5 inch wide trench just deep enough to hide them.

The lighter and hairspray trick isn't a good idea. I witnessed a can of Axe body spray burst in a friend's hand while he was doing that. No one was injured, but they could have been. Not sure if the same thing would happen with hair spray, but I wouldn't tempt it.

Clock/radio, strop, tennis ball to throw at wall when family is noisy, lip balm, cell phone, remote controls, pen, book mark, tissue box, the stuff I'm carrying in my pockets before I sleep(usually 1 folder, 1 SAK and/or a leatherman wave, fenix L2D and a fixed blade I made), and I keep a double edged fixed blade I made attached to the column thingy of my bed.

On my bedside table. Colt SA 43/8 .45 long colt with heavy handloads. On the floor on my side a Remington mod 11 auto
in 12ga and cut down to 28in overall. Also my edc stuff.

Usually whatever I had on during the day. I have changed that to having the same items at bedside no matter what I had on during the day. Current items are:
