This post was motivated by Rival's most recent post. I want to know what you own and why. Specifically, for those of you who 'use' all your blades...what gets to come along and what remains in a drawer as part of your collection? I have recently sold off many of the knives I thought I wanted...leaving me with the ones I actually use (some more that others).

Here's all my blades / uses:
  • Custom Strider CMP3V MT-L variant - my main military field knife & wilderness blade
  • CRK Lg. Regular Desert Ironwood Sebenza - EDC
  • D2 Arclite (paracord wrapped & black bodycote) in horz. SOB sheath
  • Ka-Bar 1095 ‘classic’ (the way they were meant to look) - my first military field knife, bought fresh out of boot camp, now retired on my “I love me” wall.
  • Eric Chang Hunter 440C blade/Tulipwood handle - main hunting blade
  • Remington 'waterfowl' - hunting pocketknife, esp. for small game, has Rem-choke tube tool
  • Leatherman Wave - lots of things (usually in the SOE sheath for my Strider)
  • Leatherman Micra – also lots of things (esp. the scissors) - on Keyring
  • Spyderco Mouse - EDC money-clip
  • Schrade Old Timer (1040T) pen knife - former EDC knife while in college...kept for sentimental reasons, still is a good whittler
  • Leatherman Side-clip (rides in my briefcase)
  • GB Wilderness hatchet - used for lots of things... :)
  • Ontario 18in. (I think) Military Machette - camping / backpacking / yardwork...

That's it...

I have some kind of mental thing about owning more than I need or having something "too nice". For that reason I keep very few knives. I do like to trade though, I just can't keep em. Right now I have the minimum. A Schrade Uncle Henry "Premium Stockman". A Leatherman pulse, and A S&W badge knife. That pretty much covers my life. I had A Decorated Sebenza. Just too much money for me. I ended up getting 2 NIB high end Benchmades, and $200 cash for it on the "old" for sale forums. I guess I feel guilty if I own anything better than what I feel is the minimum to get by. Luckily for me, I get to keep stuff a little while before I feel too guilty. :p That's basically it. I always keep ANY knife that is given to me. I have some real pos. But some of them mean more to me than any other knife in the world.

I hope my post makes sense. Having some doubts,The Magician.

...And already drooling over the next few! Haven't made my mind up yet but one will be either a Camillus EDC in 154 CM, or a BM 705 with plain/satin blade; the other probably a fixed blade for backpacking.

Here's the current line-up in no particular order:

*Renno miniature knife, 3,45 inch opened. I don't know who made it and where, but it's a stunning Buck 110-ish little wonder for its $3,50. Bought it for "cute-factor", but it's sharp and amazingly well-made for the money.
*No-name small, cheap two-blade pocket-folder with imitation, green MOP scales. Had it for ages and just restored it to -most of- its former glory.
*Leatherman SuperTool: Was a gift, and frankly hven't put it to much use. Cool to play with though.:D
*Spyderco C35 Q in a lt. ed. from a major Dutch outdoor-chain; Bever Zwerfsport. Instead of the spider it sports a beaver in the blade.
Again, bought for cute-factor; it's too light for my taste and the backlock is unreliable.
*BM 690 Elishewitz, just because I "needed" a BM and liked the looks of their 690 best. Still do!
*Laguiole, at 8,5 inch opened my largest and -frankly- still most beautiful folder; equipped with corkscrew and very darkbrown to black bone scales. Saw it in a souvenir/knifeshop in Lourdes, during my cycling-trip I made in the Pyrrhenees last summer. This shop had the largest, and BEST selection of Laguiole I've ever seen. Took me an hour to choose this one.
*William Henry S05-C; the moment I saw a pic of this one, I knew I had to have it: I wanted a small, dressy folder with high-grade steel.
*Opinel in carbon-steel; a real "user" that hangs out in the kitchen-drawer. Easy to get REAL sharp.
*Victorinox SAK, just found out I still have the box but there's no type # anywhere. So, it's a mid-thickness model with scissors. I've carried one -this is my fourth or fifth- since I was 8 or 9 years old.
Don't leave the house without it.
*SOG Bowie... Just to have it! Totally illegal here in the NL's, I shouldn't even OWN it. Strictly speaking that is, they're in at least two shops here in Rotterdam. At stunning prices... ±80% higher than on American knife-sites. ...Where I got mine :D .
*Buck Duke 500; I was immediately struck by its blend of grace and strength. Even though it's not a high-end knife, it could be mistaken for one.

Phew... :)

The knives I use:
EDC...small Sebenza
EDC @ work...Spyderco Native
dress...Umfaan, V-nox Secretary, or Buck 526
camping/hiking...V-nox Rucksack or #8 Opinel
hunting...Schrade Sharpfinger
fishing...Rapala filet and Leatherman SideClip

Future wants/needs...V-nox Soldier, S30V sall Sebenza, and small TNT, all for EDC rotation.

Everything else just sits around.

I just went through a purge, and got rid of several knives that I don't carry anymore. My brothers and sister were quite happy to be the recipients:D I now keep a few that will probably be with me for a long time. I still have some knives that are too crappy to even give away, and I guess I'll keep those 'til I feel confident enough to just toss them out. For now, my keepers are:

MicroTech LCC D/A: Just a great all around work knife with extremely cool gadget factor.
A.G. Russell linerlock knife with Ti bolsters, and Quince burl handles: One of my favorite daily carries with a wickedly sharp ATS-34 blade.
A.G Russell damascus lockback with Quince burl: A cool dress-up knife that is the only knife that my wife really likes.
Benchmade 940 KOTM: Cool blue color, and gotta love that Axis lock:D
Spyderco Viele: Nice smooth opener, very classy dress folder, and everday carry.
RiverRat Titanium neck knife: Nice slim blade that can fit in my wallet, My only Titanium blade.
ProTech Runt: Way cool little auto, blue handle, black blade, tritium button.
TiNives Damascus Gold limited edition Auto: This knife was purchased as a result of a very important decision to help a friend, and will forever be a reminder. The "piece de resistance"(said with appropriate French accent)
Bud Nealy Aikuchi fixed blade tanto: Another special gift, my only fixed blade, and a daily carry in my jacket pocket.

I have a few others, but they don't make it into my daily carry rotation, but most do have sentimental value, and/or gadget factor. Some of these may or may not get traded, eventually.

Wow! I never realized just what a chache I have! My son and son/daughter? will have quite a haul when I pass on. And I still want more!

Got a Emerson Mini-Commander that I use for everything. It goes everywhere with me. I have a 99 CN Commander on the way (get here tomorrow I hope) that will never cut a hair. I have a CQC7 on the way that will not be used, and there will be more EKI's to come. Why do I have em'. I love Emerson knives. I want all of em'. Of all the knives I have owned, including a small Sebbie, various MT's, MOD's, and BM's, I have settled down on this brand. They kick major butt!

I am not going to take time to list all my knives, but I will try to list the ones I use the most.

My Calypso Jr. Lt. resides in my right front pocket, and a vintage Schrade-Walden stockman with jigged bone scales occupies the other pocket.

My Marbles Fieldcraft goes hunting with me, and I use it, a Lee Reeves forged 52100 blade, and an Old Timer Deerslayer for processing game.

A Kershaw Chive is my usual dress knife.

I have a lot of knives, but these see the most use.

P.S. I forgot my Livesay N.R.G.S. neck knife that lives in the truck.

Here goes...

SAK "Waiter" or something along those lines: Bought to use as a low risk EDC when I went to Mexico. Wife has since claimed it as hers.

REKAT Pioneer: was my EDC. Wife now owns it and keeps it in her car.

REKAT Savant: replaced the Pioneer. Rarely carry it now as I'm into slipjoints at the moment.

Remington Waterfowler: Bought as a small game knife (was on sale at CK&T). Has a muskrat style blade, a serrated sheepsfoot, a remchoke tool and a pin tool for 870's. Goes well with my 870. Fell in love with it's edge holding ability. It's my EDC now.

Schrade Golden Spike: Asked my parents to get me a fixed blade for camping/hunting for Xmas a couple years ago. Told them I wanted someting with less than a 4" blade. Guy at wally world talked them into this. Has turned out to be a decent knife, but I'd rather have a droppoint style. Not getting rid of it till it's worn out though.

Opinel: lives in my mtnbike kit.

Have an Anso Personal Sheepsfoot on order
Would like to pick up a natural handled Congress pattern knife

That's it...

Chris

Okay,
My EDC now is a CRKT Bladelock and a Leatherman Micra.
At work all I carry is a Victorinox Cadet (but that might change to the Schrade Tough Chip).
Gerber Pro-Scout multi-tool in my car.
Bucklite in my car's toolkit in the trunk.
Leatherman Micra in wife's car.
Case Sharktooth in the wife's car toolkit in the trunk.
Wenger Handyman and Swisstech tool in the small fishing tacklebox.
Wenger Standard Issue and Seber-tool in the large tacklebox.
Wenger Highlander in locker at work.
Victorinox Super Tinker in the bathroom mirror-cabinet.
Spyderco Rescue in the home tool-box.
Victorinox Electrician in the home tool-box.
Victorinox Pioneer in my heavy winter coat in the closet.
And a whole box of others that I like to play with.

Cheers,
Allen.

Well, it's now 4-26-04 and my list has changed also:
EDC is now a Benchmade 556 yellow Mini-Griptilian.
At work my EDC is a black 550 Mini-Griptilian.
The Gerber Pro-Scout still rides in my car, and I use it when doing handy-work too.
My tool-kit in the car now has my Spyderco Endura.
My wife's car now has a Gerber Compact Sport in the console.
The toolkit in the wife's car now has the Spyderco Rescue.
Tackle-boxes have'nt changed.
The Wenger Highlander is no longer in the work locker, but a Leatherman Squirt P4 has taken its place.

Allen.

I have 12 in my little display case.

I use the TTKK quite a bit in the kitchen. I hope to get some "real" kitchen knives pretty soon and save it for camping.

Other than that, I tend to carry the Mini-commander for EDC, although I can't get it as sharp as I'd like.

Also carry the NNHD as much as possible. Just love that knife.

The rest is probably just fluff.

Mike

I’ve got way too many knives to list them all, but here are the ones that get used most.

Fixed Blades

1. Dozier K-4 – This is just a great knife in every sense of the word. It’s darned near perfect. The combination of stag handles and great D-2 steel make for awesome performance and beautiful looks. Everybody should have a Dozier.

2. Marbles Fieldcraft – This knife was an absolute steal for the price. Possibly the best cutter in my collection. Excellent convex grind. HIGHLY underrated as an outdoor knife.

3. Mini-Talon – This is brand new, but looks to be a great small working knife.

Folders

1. Large Sebenza – Nothing needs to be said about this one. It’s a legend.

2. Spyderco Military – I use this whenever I go fishing, boating or canoeing. Awesome cutter and very light for the size.

3. Kershaw Double Cross – Just a great pocketknife. I really hope that Kershaw makes more knives like this. Good looks and nice traditional styling.

4. Camillus 154CM EDC – Huge bang for the buck, and very sheeple friendly.

5. Buck stag/BG-42 110 – Excellent working knife, and drop-dead gorgeous. Another legend.

6. Queen ATS-34 wharncliife half-whittler – It gets used for…… whittling!!!

Interesting enough, the Buck 110 is the only one of these that has serrations. I guess I’m just not a serrated kind of guy for the most part. I do wish I’d gotten the serrated Military though.

Oh yah. I always have a Victorinox Cybertool with me at home and work. This thing is the ultimate urban survival knife.

Bttt... :) I know there are more of you guys out there just dying to tell the world what you've got!!! ;)

Remember...please tell us why you own what you do...

.....The what is as follows;

EDC's ( I tend to switch these every so often, just for a bit of variety)

-- Large Classic leather inlaid Sebenza
-- Large bocote inlaid regular Sebenza
-- Large ironwood inlaid regular Sebenza

As nice as the woods are and as much as I like the way they fill my hand, I just can't seem to get the large leather Classic out of my right front pocket for very long! I carry the Sebenza because it is the finest production knife I have EVER carried and used. I have been through many custom folders, but as of yet have not found one that had the manufacturing perfection of the Sebenza. This is a recurring theme in most of my posts, and I stand by it!:D

-- Spyderco Toad, because it is small, easy to use and carry.
-- Microtech auto of some sort in a belt sheath for the toy
factor. Currently an Amphibian.
-- Gerber Yari fixed blade and a Pack River camp knife for
camping and extended outdoor activities. The Pack River,
by Steve Mullin can chop wood and slice the bacon, while the
Gerber Yari is just plain handy.

Just to reiterate about the Sebenza. It(they) are true EDC's as I carry one from the time I get dressed in the morning until I come in at night. This includes my regular job as a middle school teacher and a part time sporting goods associate for Wal Mart. The Spyderco Toad goes along also. Just in case anyone is concerned, I DO NOT carry an automatic at school:) might not be too:cool: ;)

Small custon fixed blade: won in contest
Spyderco police: utility and backup
Spyderco Civilian(aluminum): collector value and defense
Leatherman Wave: Utility
Buck Lightning: Work knife that gets trashed
various others that I will buy to check out
Tom Mayos:The absolute best quality in my book.

Chew 3 1/2 inch Covert-Handle one
Speed Tech Synergy-Cool factor
BM 940-great knife
BM 721-another great
Camillus CUDA Damascus-cool factor ++++
BM-Pinnacle-Don't do Sebenzas anymore
Double cross-neat piece
Various slipjoints
SAK Explorer
Gerber Multitool

I try pretty hard to get stuff that will do everything
I need, I have quiet a few POS in a box, but these
are the only ones I've used in a year.

EDC: Lg. Classic Sebenza (in, and out of house)
Multi-Tool: LM WAVE (On me when ever I leave the house)
When I work with Children at church: LM Micra
(Only! To keep anyone from getting cut, but My
Seb. is in my back-pack)
Camping: Becker K&T BK2
Fishing/SUV: CRKT Stiff KISS (+EDC +Camping)
and I just got a Spyderco Meerkat for "legal" carry.

One note: there are two NICE SAKs in a special place.
One was my Grandpas (I used it for 3 years), and another
was MY SAK that serviced me well for 4 years, but got replaced
by the LM WAVE.

Someone posted once that the Seb. was the cheapest knife
they ever got, because they couldn't get any knives after it.
I with him 100%!! I just completely skiped the $50-250 knife
range, and I'm not looking back! :)

I have a D2 TTKK that I use in the kitchen, I like it so much that I am expecting a Carbon fibre/Talonite version any day.

Apart from that I major on knives from Ernest Emerson and Walter Brend. I also like a well made tomahawk.

Ho great burning reason, I just like this stuff.

Regards,

Ed

Benchmade Mini-AFCK: Usual EDC knife
Benchmade 42: Balisong for general flipping
Benchmade 551: A good work knife
CRKT M16: My beat-up knife
CRKT F4: Just because I wanted a neck knife
Emerson Mini-Commander: Another EDC knife, and it's just cool
Microtech LCC: A sometimes EDC, it's my favorite knife.
